Quick Fire Brown

So i am thinking about buying the Quick Fire Brown ten keyless. I have only seen reviews mainly of the blues. What do the browns feel like? Are they like the Filco or like the Leopold? Or do they feel different than those? Thanks.

well they have costar stabilizers so by default it will feel more like the filco than the leopold

Made by the same factory and use the same stabilizer, of course it'll be a lot similar to FILCO, even on its quality.

CM quickfire IS essentially a Filco. There's a ton of info and user feedback on mx browns if you search the forum. Basically they're nearly linear, but there is a very slight bump you can feel. If you type really hard or fast, you'll hardly notice the bump. Personally, not my favorite. I either like an all linear light switch, or one with a more distinct click feedback. Trying to mix the two makes it feel girtty to me.

Browns feel like a softer version of the blues. Get one, you won't regret it.

Personally, Browns don't feel any softer than Blues to me. They just don't clack as much. They are still pretty noisy though.

I do have a Brown Filco and Leopold. I love them. I was just wondering if the Quick Fire was similar to which one. I am selling my Filco Ninja brown on Ebay because i thought i should just save some money and get the Quickfire. I like the quick fire because the detachable USB cord makes it easy for me to put it on my computer  (i use a laptop) and type. The nondetachable one gets in the way a bit. Thanks for your help.

CM Storm and Filco does not come out of the same factory. Costar use subcontractors for manufacturing and they didn't use the same one. See Matias's take on this.

What you say and what you linked don't match.  All that shows is that there are subcontractors that do builds for Costar, not that CM and Filco aren't from the same subcontractor.  Not only that, but Matias doesn't even attempt to claim that the original pair (Filco and Rosewill) in that thread aren't from the same subcontractor.

The likelihood that some parts of CM's QFR and Filco's 87 key are from the same manufacturing plant are very high.  Specifically the molds for the case are very similar and so likely came from the same mold maker.  After that, injecting plastic is not rocket science.  The formulation in the ABS will likely vary just as much in the Filco as in the CM since ABS has fairly high variance in general for non-crucial specs.

if you've used and liked blues why not get blues? have you tried the other options you're debating between?

How I would explain the difference between brown and blue:

First of all, they have the same strength spring, the only difference is the way in which each switch achieves it's tactility. The blue tactility is similar to the way a ball point pen feels when you click it. It has that sharp mechanical click that happens when the switch actuates. In contrast, the brown feels more like a the teeth on a key as you insert it into a lock. The tactility is created by the metal contact moving over a bump on the slider inside the switch. So image inserting a key into a lock that only has one tooth on it. The feedback you get in your finger is not sharp like the blue, its more the feeling of pushing through a bump rather than an instantaneous change in required force.

It is kind of hard to relate the feeling of the switches to more familiar things though, so the best way to find out is to try them all!

I also wouldn't completely disregard linear switches just yet. I started out with a brown board, because the tactility was intriguing to me but I didn't like the sound of blues. Eventually I grew tired of the tactile bump in the browns, and it just started to seem like it was in the way. I got reds and never looked back.

It's a switch problem that people blame on Filcos. Some springs are more sproingy than others.

Some people will say Blues suck, others will say Browns suck, some will say Cherry MX Black sucks and others will say Red sucks.

But the fact is, none of these really "suck", people have different preferences for these things, what one may love, the other one hates!

Still, people tend to forget that fact and try to convince others that a certain switch is better than others... And users who read all this stuff just get confused since the feedback always varies from one person to another.

I never thought i would like the reds and now i love them. It is such a personal preference. The only kind i wonder about why people like are the cherry mx blacks. They are so hard to press i wonder if it hurts peoples fingers and don't they get tired of typing quickly. But, if they like them that is their thing.

Buckling Springs are heavy, but that doesn't changes the fact that they're good switches and some people love and other hate them.

i just gonna stick what i think its suitable for typing , (the linear will make me , think longer when the keys is actually actuated .)

I have typed on a lot everything. MX blue, brown, black, and red....ALPS white (both simplified and complex), ALPS Black (simp and comp),  Buckling Spring, Cherry MY, and Fujistu.

I haven't met one that I don't like typing on aside from the crappy rubber domes. If you are looking for something new I would start with the brown switch. See how you like it and if you don't you can always sell/trade it. That's one wonderful thing about Mechanical keyboards. Most don't lose value very fast and you will always be able to sell them on this website or ebay.

Let us know which one you choose.

I own a QFR with blues and I just recently ordered a brown one because I have 2 other brown switch keyboards that I like a lot better. You might have to try some to see which one you like.

i just recently bought a brown version.

Yes it nearly felt like a linear switch like red. But u barely feel the tacticle bump if you type fast 120wpm+ , and in gaming .

I have the QF Rapid with browns and a Filco TKL with browns. I started with a Razer, then went to a full size Filco (and what a difference that made!) with blue keys and ended up here. I found the blue keys good but I much prefer the slightly lighter touch of these.

I use the QF at work and the Filco at home. I'd say they feel broadly but not exactly the same when wearing their 'out of the box' keys.

I find the QF is a little lighter feeling and not quite as solid as the Filco overall (I do a lot of typing on both as I am a developer) but I do enjoy using it.

I replaced both sets of keys..the QF wears some SP doubleshots and the Filco wears some older Cherry DS keys I bought on this forum and they feel really great. I didn't really think keys made a huge difference but they do. Since fitting them I find the Filco is a better typing experience, but the feel on the QF is a bit more like the Filco was when wearing its original keyset, if that makes sense.

I've just acquired a new set of older DS keys in a fetching grey so will see what a difference that makes again. In terms of buying one or the other I'd say the QF is just as good in day to day use considering the price difference, but I do prefer the Filco look and feel overall. If I had a choice though and could only spend the one amount, I would get the QF and then some keys.

but yeah, QFR is merely like a Filco. Since i come from the razer blackwiddow, i feel the QFR is like a top notch keyboard like the filco 88% of the buildquality. Well, i'd better spend less money and easier finding keyboard rather than rare filco in my country which is hard to warranty over.

but i think the key feels will feel different if the keycaps are different plastic (ABS/PBT) and the soldering on the PCB.     I still prefer media keys (kinda useful when im streaming SC2 or games).

(overall is same stuffs )
