Blackberry VS Windows phone VS Android VS iPhone
« on: Fri, 14 December 2012, 22:16:54 »
I got a Blackberry 9900 right now, after 1 year of hard use (always drop, using it during raining but no umbrella, etc), it's still works. I'm planning to get a new phone now, which is better? Lumia 920/ iPhone 5/ Samsung GN2/ or just wait the Blackberry 10?

as a proud owner of apple's -Revolutionary- iphone5 since 3 days after its release
BUT after using the demo of the galaxy s3/ galaxy note 2, though the hardware from apple is superior to the note 2  the screen on it was really nice , along with the screen  hardware from wacom. for day to day use the extra screen real-estate was nice for email/web/text but thats just my personal preference.
i wanted to exchange the iphn5 for the galaxynote2 but i was outside the 30 day return policy with apple
so im stuck with the iphone 5 for next year or so

longstory short definitely demo out the samsung line, apple, nokia etc.. to fit your needs before making your final decision.

depends what you go for generally.. if you want a phone as a phone to just do simple surfing, calling, texting, you don't need all this fancy phones with their fancy processors.. I've more or less realized they are generally for games. For everyday use I believe the iPhone 5 is faster by iPhone 4s by a few seconds on opening browsers etc.

Anyway iPhone for the 'ease' of use. You get everything there, there's nothing to change. Basically it's like spoon feeding you.

Android if you're into customizing, tweaking, and you like to change software. It's similar to IOS, but they give you a variety of food for you to choose.

If by windows you mean the nokia lumia 920, it's a pretty good phone, looks nice, quite fast. Apps wise is lacking.

Honestly, any of them will work for what you want to do with ease.  I prefer the size of the GN2, but apple stuff just works, especially if you have anything else apple.  In a year or so, MS will be closer to that with wp8, but it's in the infancy stages currently.

Best answer I can give is to find a place that sells all of them and play with the phones you're interested in.

While I won't argue iphones ease of use, ICS and above have really come a long way in that category. But with android, you get the added customization. Before, I'd recommend iOS to people that aren't tech suavey but now, its a wash.

Nexus 4 is a great device hampered by the fact that it isn't a current generation device for internet connectivity.

Even though I have verizon, I don't regret my GalNex at all. Hell, almost every Nexus device has been a stellar piece of hardware, the current LG one included.  But again, no 4g connectivity boggles my mindparts.

first, you're a bb user

did you like the sparse bb marketplace? (i have access to droid/ios/bb)

and you want better?

better would be droid
best would be ios but it usually goes like this for dev schedule.
"we're releasing our ios app today, look for our droid app next month"

i have no idea on windows app. but i would assume they suck, just like droid sucked for 2 years (they are now just catching up to ios)

hardware... imo, as long as the cpu is dual core, it doesn't matter really, and all smartphones will be dual or even quad core, now if you use the phone for videos/pictures you might want to consider the more picturey phones like gs3 ip5, they both use the sony camera.

of course hardware means screen size, take your pick, you come from a micro screen, anything would be an upgrade, imo the gs3 size is perfect, and the ip5 is playing catch up

typing

you have the best smartphone input, now your gonna use screen input, ip5 tap tap tap sucks, when compared to recent advances such as swype (google it), for me swype (droid only) replaced the need for a hardware keyboard input.

i have a gs3, wife has a ip4 and work is allowing her to replace her bb with an ip5 (next week) different devices for different ppl.

I'm sure (at least in the US) Verizon dropping the ball on gnex updates has something to do with that. With that said, I'm leaving Verizon as soon as my contract is up. Hopefully the rumors of Google starting their own carrier are true by then.

Not to mention posting on Geekhack, the experience is lackluster on any portable device..

One MUST have a mechanical keyboard for a gratifying experience posting here.

If you don't got one, and you're not spamming the keyboard section on advice on which one to get, YOU DON"T BELONG,, GO AWAY...
