Filco Chatter
« on: Tue, 08 January 2013, 00:09:23 »
I have a 2-year old Filco Majestouch and I'm having a problem with my "C" key.

It's registering a lot of double taps. I'm on Linux (Ubuntu).

Basically, if I type a word like "change", I get "cchange" or "ccchange". I've tinkered with Ubuntu's keyboard key repeat settings and added more delay but still not helping. The setting is for preventing keys from repeating if held down. So this must mean the key isn't, but just registering two keypresses or more.

Do you suggest taking apart the keyboard or cleaning? Can those help?

I prefer hardware solution to fix this than software filtering the extra keypresses.

Your switch is bad and the problem is called chatter.

go to wasd keyboard website.. buy a few switches.. and replace the affected switch..

Solder sucker will make this easier because theres a GOOD chance that you'll melt the innards of the switch if you're not quick with the solder.

Oh, so it's called chatter..

Can this work on the Filco? Seems like the guy only changed the top part of the switch. Do you think this would fix the chatter?

I don't know how to solder/desolder so maybe I would have to learn or let somebody else do it.

Oh ok, thanks for your replies.

I will just try to fix this with "Bounce keys" settings then, for now.
