Ever make a purchase that you immediately regretted?
« on: Tue, 15 January 2013, 22:19:53 »
Ordering scotch from the UK is one that comes to mind. The price on the malts were fine, but only afterwards did I realize the shipping for alcohol across the pond cost me £62.00 for only 2 bottles. What are some purchases you immediately regretted?

A broken watch on eBay. I knew it was broken, but I thought it may be salvageable. Not the worst purchase, but I could have found a better use for the $20.

two pairs of shoes bought online

(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

Sadly I regret a lot of my purchases. I put it down to it being part of my OCD and some of my anxiety issues, but yeah, I buy something and then think "Oh ****, why did I do that?"

Apart from necessities such as food, shelter, fuel, and clothing, at least 5% of everything that I have bought in my lifetime has been a waste, on one level or another.

Can't fret over regrets, life is too short.

It IS a good idea to REALLY learn from your mistakes.

When service provider call and give you a "great deal" on upgrading your service to the next tier at discounted price.  I typically always regret to it and having to call back immediately to cancel it.  This applies to Internet, cellphone, TV package... Etc.

There was also another time that my bank call me to sign me up to life insurance on my VISA which I also call back right after to cancel it.

I give in to pressure too easily.  Damn those telephone sales.

Waste is not regret, but I regret waste that has happened against my intention.

And no, I never owned the "A Wasted Weekend is Not a Weekend Wasted" T-shirt.

Not a full purchase, but my current apartment. It's nice, in a good spot, but I'm really not that fancy of a guy and it is way more than I wish to pay (comes out even because I can walk to work so don't have to pay for bus/gas).

My Planatronics 680 headset, which comes with a build in mic, but the arm squeaks every time you move, they are also slightly too small for my ears which makes long gaming sessions border on painful. Oh how I wish some gaming company would sponsor me to play games, like farmville or something.

I'd rather just go back to discussing my own regretted purchase that you deleted for no reason, rather than discuss anything with you, frankly. But yeah, don't worry, I'm not planning on debating it here further. I'm done.

And I've made a few purchases through classifieds here, that I regret.  So many keycaps were bought to now just sit in my closet.

In my experience planatronics is ass for the money. I bought a headset from them that didn't last two months before the plastic U shaped brace snapped in half leaving me with two speakers. I doubt they would have warrantied it since there was no way to prove that it wasn't just from regular use but the plastic was way too hard considering how much you would have to bend it apart to get it on your head.

As far as purchases I regret, I can't specifically think of any one thing but I do go on eBay binges now and again. I'll spend hundreds of dollars on random crap (Usually lots of x items) then realize later that day "why did I bid that much on a box of NES controllers, I'll never use them all."

I don't wear belts, and I already have an SNES (third party) USB controller. Works for NES, Sega, Super Nintendo and a lot of other consoles. Less accurate than the real deal but also considerably cheaper.

Actually you SHOULD have tried there customer service, i heard the squeak, i thought there was a problem with my headset I told them. I had a replacement in my hands in 2 days and they asked me to put the broken pair in the box (the new pair arrived in) which they had pre-paid return postage on, really there after sales is the best I have ever used haha!

Glad to hear you got good customer service. Pretty sad that nowadays the surprising thing isn't when a company provides quality service on a product but quite the opposite.

hmm if you were in the US i'd offer to take that orange off your hands but i think the price to ship an orange head int'l would be about as much as the head costs new :P what head is it?  i am thinking about picking up a tiny/dual terror pretty soon here.

Best customer service I've ever encountered was Mionix. Sent me free replacement parts, and a free cable I didn't even ask for. They even resent the parts when one of them broke during shipping, all of them, not just the one that broke.

Just because I don't take a lot of pictures doesn't mean its in my closet...

Most of my keys are in rotation though I do fall victim of liking a specific set for a specific keyboard

But all my custom boards are in rotation, my regular boards not so much those are in the closet for collection sake mostly

Various Impulse Buys For Games
Almost this, although I never regret it instantly.

Instant regret is what I get when I buy yet another mouse I don't need, although that's not so much regret as it is common sense yelling "you have enough already, you don't need more, certainly not at that price!"
There are few mice I still regret buying though.

And my new calculator, it was the most expensive one in the store and I will probably never utilise the features that I paid extra for, but it was the only model number I recognised from the list of recommended calculators and I was already familiar with it as I used to have one a few years ago that I since gave to my sister.(I didn't buy the same calculator twice, the first one I got as a gift and had no idea it was that expensive)

I believe this was taken to court in Germany not long ago and it was decided that according to EU laws all digital games(and probably digital goods in general) should be able to be sold on, although so far Steam hasn't done much about it, but that might be their plan for the new Steam marketplace. I sure hope so, because that means I can hopefully get something out of the games I bought but will never play.

Yeah I heard about that, looks like the process is still developing in EU, but I doubt it will come to the NA scene any time soon.

They're likely worried about messing up their bundle sales that get you to having multiple copies of stuff.

Or "bittorrent", which is shaking the very foundation of ownership laws....

kindle x 2
two pairs of ski boots (both were too big for my feet)
razer keyboard
two pairs of shoes bought online
cowon c2
why do you regret the c2?
inconvenient interface, hold button that can be easily unintentionally pressed when in a pocket, battery discharging for no reason when not using the device, battery life of three days or so.
