I think it is a fine keyboard if you really think you need those extra keys and "gamer blings" and I believe they come only with the brown switchs which are popular but you might like something else.
there are cheaper options which people around here generally tend to like more, such has leopold/ducky/vortex/cm storm

Apparently there's been a rash of LED malfunctions on those though. YMMV

Yeah space is not an issue for me so I'd prefer to have extra features like macros and num pad. I mean there's no reason to not have them when other keyboards cost about the same but don't have them, unless there's something else I'm not aware about in keyboards. I checked some of the keyboards like ducky and a bunch of them were in the $120+ range but had no extra features. Some of the other keyboards I looked at were CM Trigger but it had a 6kro, Quickfire TK, and Quickfire Rapid but I'm not sure about the lack of num pad since I use mine quite often. This will be my first mechanical and I'm looking to get either blue or brown switches (leaning towards brown)

I'm like you only recently gotten into mechanical keyboards and yesterday got my first one after waiting for the shipping from the keyboard company for so long.
on my old keyboard I got used to typing numbers and on occasion doing calculations with the numpad but I decided it is not a necessity and I really wanted to try something smaller. desk space is not an issue for me either I have quite a large desk here but I like to keep things minimalistic.
so far I am not missing the numpad as much as I thought I will on my TKL Filco. it does feel akward at times to have a shorter keyboard but it's only because I had this rubberdome keyboard for close to 10 years now and I got used to it.
overall it is for me it feels nicer having my mouse closer to the keys I type with and not needing to move my hand all the time over keys a generally don't use that much.
also I used to play WoW few years back and I never needed all those extra macro buttons to be successful. I just utilized the keys that were easy to reach like the keys near the WASD cluster and the 1-5/6 along with modifier combinations and it worked out for me very well.

I heard this is a good keyboard aside from the LED dying prematurely.

As for the extra media buttons and macro buttons.  More buttons doesn't necessary mean "better bang for the buck".  I have the deskspace for it, but I just really don't like macro buttons and have no use for them.  I tend to hit the macro button instead of the left ctrl and in my opinion it creates more problem than solves any.  Due to this reason I never buy a keyboard with macro buttons.

That and after typing on Filco, any other keyboard just feel too big and bulky.  Maybe I just like the clean and minimalist look.  As for the price difference, you're paying for the reliability and internal component quality.

If you can wait then CM Storm QuickFire XT is coming out late April.  In my opinion that's more "bang for the buck".

I ordered a G710+ as soon as they were released.  I was super excited for it to come in, but once I started using it I wasn't the biggest fan.  Something just felt weird about it and I couldn't figure out what it was.  I only ended up using it for like a day and not it is sitting back in its box in the closet.  Another thing that was a negative for me was that it is huge.  I don't have the desk space for it, and I think this played a factor in my decision to stop using it.

It's the Orings they put in.. makes MX brown feel really weird.

Is isn't just their o-rings...There is more to how they quiet down the keys than that as the o-ring they use is a very thin very hard o-ring.  Even without it, it is relatively quiet...Maybe they put stickers under the switch or maybe it is the heavy paint on the keys...

Interesting.  I was wondering why it felt so weird.  I have 2 other keyboards with brown switches and enjoy them, and was trying to figure out why I didn't like the 710+ as much.  I don't think I'll be using it much even if I did like how it felt.  It is massive and I need the desk space.

It isn't even that big compared to most of the other gaming keyboards..but once you're used to TKL keyboards and the like, the gaming boards just seem so excessively big.....

Yeah even just go from Filco to Das Keyboard already made me feel like Das Keyboard's edges are too thick.  So I can only imagine if you've tried TKL then this.
