The function key has no keycode and can therefore not be simulated. If you press the function key on your keyboard, no signal gets sent to your PC, only if you press a key combination with the function key.

yup because the function key is handled at the keyboard firmware level.  I wonder if it would be possible to create function layer inside AHK?

If you would use for example one of the Windows keys as the FN key, absolutely.

One of the keys on my 1-year old Unicomp keyboard is no longer as clicky as the others; probably the spring has worn down.

Is there a way that I can fix this myself?

Thanks!

Try reseating the cap first. If not, you can order replacement parts from Unicomp.

Sandpaper?

But for dyesub and doubleshot, that would take forever

Dye sub it would not be possible since the legend goes all the way through the cap.  Think plated through hole on a dual sided PCB.  for dyesub you might be able to use acetone but make 100% sure it is PBT and not ABS.  That or sandpaper.  But I would rather use some pretty fine stuff.  And do this by hand.  But personally I would either buy a new set or see if you can trade someone.

actually the keycap is keycool PBT not dyesub just printed regular,
so better uses acetone or Sandpaper(I'm afraid of damaging the surface)though..

if you are 100% sure it is PBT then acetone shouldn't damage them.  There was a test done on a youtube clip (i think it was for PBT dye sub back light friendly caps) where they applied acetone to the caps and it did nothing to the cap aside from the legend on the dye subs.

acetone might or might not damage the printing. I would recommend trying it.

Acetone does not affect the base PBT at all. I have used it several times on the underside of PBT keycaps.

Please report back after you tried the tipps from this thread.

I also want to remove the legends from the Stock Poker II PBT keys without affecting the base keycap.

If Acetone is really the answer, I'll try it too :)

So pertaining to the message I sent the eBay seller from my alps thread, he responded saying he would remove a keycap but he's not sure how. Honestly I don't have much experience myself removing keycaps without the proper tools so basically

What advice can I give this guy on removing an alps keycap by hand? (I thought this question was more appropriate here)

Get a wire keypuller, I find those work best for Alps keycaps. You can use other tools, as shown in the OP, but the wire keypuller is the best. Rock the keycap back and forth from corner to corner. Check out this guide. It will be hard to pull off, Alps caps are hard to remove.

2) Does CM have some kind of exclusive deal w/ Cherry?

1) 7bit's Group Buy on Deskthority. Not sure if there's other sources right now. You could also try Ghetto Greens.
2) No. Ducky has MX Green boards as well.

Ah I see. Well I know people have soldered with a Radio Shack 15W iron so it really depends on what kind of iron you want.

I wouldn't get a 60w soldering iron as it might get too hot for the PCB. You should be okay with 25W/35W/40W irons.

I'd also get an iron that has replaceable tips that can be easily found (Weller, for example).

If it's a fixed temperature soldering iron, I'm not sure how the wattage plays a factor in temperature. I think dreamre might be right since mkawa's learn to solder kit has an iron that only goes up to 30W. But again, I'm not 100% sure.

Depending on the iron you get, some irons regulate temperature while some don't.

Without buying the keyboard? I thought for sure there are people who bought these caps separately some how. Really interested in getting them for the filco MJ2.

I thought MK.com had them at one point. Maybe Ducky has them directly on their site? I'm not sure off the top of my head where to get those though. You can try finding an Imsto PBT set that is similar to that color scheme though.

MK.com has all the boards with those keycaps but not the caps alone, and neither does ducky's site. Imsto only has 4 listings for whole sets right now and while there is both an entire blue and dark grey set, they aren't the combination with the ducky unfortunately.

oh yeah, I think I'll definitely be getting these. Is this something I'd have to buy through a proxy or will it be made available by an English retailer soon?

I don't have much experience buying keycaps.

A Keycool vendor just posted this which might interest you Rena.

oh yeah, I think I'll definitely be getting these. Is this something I'd have to buy through a proxy or will it be made available by an English retailer soon?

I don't have much experience buying keycaps.

I'm honestly not sure where they're going to be available. Best way to find out is to ask in the thread.

I'm going to buy keycaps from SP.
Are SP's row 5 keycaps suitable for common Cherry MX keyboards, like Filco?
Many manufacturers use row 1 keycaps for function keys. I'm afraid that the row 5 keycaps are not compatible with such keyboards.

I'm not totally sure what you mean. If the keycaps have Cherry MX stems, they're compatible with Cherry MX keyboards (Filco included). Could you link to the exact keycaps you're planning to buy?

Thanks riotonthebay.
I'm going to buy blank keycaps. http://keycapsdirect.com/pdfs/DCSFamily.pdf
Row 5 is taller than row 1 and the sides' slopes are different. I'm afraid that those differences may cause some problem what I don't know yet.

There won't be any issues adding them to your board, but I don't think that kind of uniform profile will be comfortable to type on. This page shows the usual row configuration for DCS-profile keycaps.
