« on: Sun, 24 February 2013, 03:18:27 »
hello I think this will be my first post! Anyway lets get right in to it. I am looking for a new mec keyboard, I have a razer blackwidow it was my first and I kinda like it.... At the time I didnt know that I would be youtubeing and live streaming for a living but I am trying to. Soooo the blues are kinda loud and it just doesn't feel right never did. so that leads me to now. I am looking for a new keyboard TKL or smaller. I love the blue... or maybe its gray alps keyboard I have as well so something like it is welcome. in all let me know what you think I should get. + if it can be under 150$ or so that would be awesome if not I will still get it if its right for me

Default CM Quickfire Rapid recommendation in your choice of switches. ;D

Other pricier options are the Filco Majestouch TKL, and the Leopold FC200R (FC700R if it's available in your country).

IIRC, CM (and I think Ducky) are going to release new keyboards, one of which has MX Greens. However, if you do like that click, I think you're better off modding a keyboard by changing the switches to MX Whites. I say this because it clicks "softer" than the Blues and Greens. The main problem will be sourcing such switches.. QWERKeys is the only place I know of where you can get them (new).

CM Quickfire Rapid comes in green but availability is sporadic. If I were you and really wanted one, I would search the boards to see of Carter has said anything about future availability.

I don't know much about this store, but it has a decent rating with a little over 1000 reviews on Google Shopping and they say they have a Green QFR in stock

Greens are great but they still click, albeit a bit more quietly than Blues due to the increased actuation force required. As such, the keys might be tough to type on for long periods of time (definitely hard to sustain, I struggled to FPS game with them) unless your hands are used to pounding away on Model Ms.

How about linear switches? Blacks and Reds are nice for gaming and not bad to type on, but you will likely bottom out just as frequently as you do with the Blues.

Since you're just diving into mechanical keyboards, you won't want to deal with modifying switches (hint: desoldering and resoldering the entire board won't be fun unless you're an enthusiast).

Wouldnt reccomend you green , they are heavier than blues, might get tired easily, you should try a blue switch first before getting greens

If the average temperature in your room is below 75* F or 22* C,, You DO NOT want MX-Green...

Without warm hands.. MXgreen is quite a chore to type on.

Hi-

What did you mean about the "gray alps"?

Matias makes Alps boards with quiet (but tactile) switches. You can get the full-sized Quiet Pro now, but the mini version has been on pre-order for about a month. Still, if you're not in a rush it may be worth the wait. The mini QP is smaller than TKL.

The Matias product page has a good audio comparison between their quiet switches and MX blues and browns. You could also use it get an idea of how blues and browns compare to each other. http://www.matias.ca/miniquietpro/pc/
