Switch GB?
« on: Fri, 15 March 2013, 22:16:34 »
It's been a while since there's been one on here, and I missed the last one on DT. Sure would love to get some clears and not pay $100+ for 'em. Would be nice to see greens and springs in there as well.

I'm game, I'm looking for whites or clears for my GH60. I'll make my decision after the MechanicalKeyboards.com/Chicago meets.

Unfortunately, Logitech ordered all the switches that Cherry can make for most of the year. I think you are looking at 9 months+ lead time. That's why 7bit is taking pre-orders on DT.

But I'd be in for some switches if someone starts a real GB.

If it's browns you need I can just desolder more NIB POS boards.

Is Logitech going to make boards in all switch types or just the standard 4?

Can't believe the maker of generally shi**y keyboards is controlling the output of cherry switches from the factory. The market will be flooded with sub-par mechanical keyboards.

Gaudy and branded as 'gamer' boards. Sigh.

Someone just needs to kick Cherry in the nuts and boost production capacity

I'd be down for some Greens for sure.  Maybe some other switches.

If it's browns you need I can just desolder more NIB POS boards.

How much are those running?  I need switches for my prototype boards and I don't want to wait half a year.  And I hate blacks so the copious WYSE ebay boards aren't very attractive.

Edit: I hate CHERRY MX BLACK SWITCHES

I've ordered switches from 7bit over on DT, but I haven't received them yet. I would be nice to have a US supply, so I'm in should a GB get started.

You know you can put new, lighter springs into those black switches, right?

Two things:
1. Where to get those springs?  Sherry's store is assumed dead until I hear further news.
2. Tactile > linear

Just PM me for new PCB-mount browns with diodes at 50cents apiece. I have sold maybe a few thousand? already. I only have a partial baggie desoldered right now, so I'll have to desolder more of the boards in my basement soon. But next week is finals, so it may take a week.

yea, but the 'work' involved... better off just "buying"

I'm in for a group buy.  Looking for the heavier Cherry MX switches:

1. White/Clear (not positive why these are different...)
2. Gray
3. Green

With the Cherry Browns back-ordered, are there still sources for the others?

Speaking of Switches i just finished harvesting 2 of the 4 boards I'm harvesting for switches for ergodox and other projects.

Razer TKL brown i got for $50 ($65 shipped...wtf)
Rosewill Red i got for 25 Shipped
2 x Quickfire Rapid Blue i got for $55 each shipped

so ~365 switches @ 200.....so whats that?....$0.55 a switch which includes shipping. and my math could be off, it could be better than that. I think i did good and i have the switches right now and not later. I also ordered clears from Prof's group buy which i am guessing is indirectly 7bit.

From what i have learned it is all about striking when the time is right i guess and having the time to desolder so many switches....lol..and being good at it.

switch group buys would probably be nice though, saves people from doing what i did. Be even better if Green and PCB switches were offered.

I'm in for a group buy.  Looking for the heavier Cherry MX switches:
1. White/Clear (not positive why these are different...)

Clear is like a brown. There's no click and a tactile bump. The actuation is heavier and the bump is HUGE. Really nice imo.

Whites are like heavier blues with a muted click. It still feels fine but it's way quieter than blues.

I snagged a Mr. Interface Switch Try Bag and those are my thoughts on them :D

7bit is taking preorders on sale on DT.
