Corsair K60/90 Firmware update
« on: Tue, 26 March 2013, 16:35:51 »
Apparently Corsair had finally addressed the key-repeat issue with their boards with a new firmware update last month. If anyone owns one of these boards could they confirm whether it works or not? I realize testing may take time due to the nature of the issue, but confirmation is always nice to have in this instance.

Official forum post can be found here: K60/K90 Firmware Update (2/25/2013)

TBH, I'm a bit surprised they are finally doing something about the problem after all the promises early on and follow-ups with the standard "We're looking into it.".

That is the problem sometimes with these gaming products. They go out of their way for them to have adjustable leds, weights, media keys and macros, but sometimes they are lacking in simple basic functionality. The biggest problem I had with the k90 is that part of the keyboard is rubber dome. There is a newer version, the K95 and K65 that should address all these problems.

I can't stand the hybrid rubber dome layout myself, but many that have actually bought the boards seem to have little issue with it (it really would drive me bat-**** crazy). I'm glad they're finally headed in the right direction with the K65/70/95 being fully mechanical, I just hope they realize taking so long to fix the main issue with the K60/90 was not ok.

I guess it all depends. I reckon a lot of people do not actually use the keys that were not mechanical all that much. However, if you are for example an RTS or MMO player that makes heavy use of the F-keys (which  is exactly the crowd the keyboard marketing and overall features target), it would be an issue. It is not just that they are rubber dome, but it creates a weird inconsistency in feel and feedback of keys on the keyboard that would just bug me.

Pretty much. I do a bit of MMO gaming and really, the layout of some 75% boards is more or less perfect for most gaming; I'm kind of surprised a lot of "gamer" focused keyboards have such wide spacing between the number row and F-row.

I heard this was unfixable... Too bad I took apart my K60 and threw out all the rubber domes... I still have the useless PCB though... lol
