Ducky Shine 2 DK9008 sticky spacebar

Hi guys,

I just got my Shine 2 - Brown switches Blue LEDs. It's really cool and I love it, except I've noticed the spacebar seems to get just a little bit stuck sometimes, particularly if I hit it very softly it tends to have a short delay before the key goes fully back up, like it's a little bit stuck. It's actually very very annoying. Is this something that affects all the Shine 2 or did I just get a slightly faulty one? Has anyone else with this keyboard got this problem?

edit: At times if I press it very very slowly and gently (especially on the corners but also in the center) it would just get stuck completely and wouldn't come up at all (sometimes it would come up by itself after 3-4 seconds)

The easiest thing to check is the stabilizer for any stickiness, cause that can be done without taking apart the entire keyboard to extract the switch. Take the space bar off, and put a smaller key cap on it to take the stabilizer out of the equation. If it makes a difference, then you can try lubing the stabilizers to make them less sticky before putting the space bar back on.

Ok, I put on a standard keycap on the spacebar and the stabilizers aren't being used and it looks like the problem is gone. I suppose the stabilizers are screwed? What type of lube can I use? Do I need to use any specific type? Water based lubes?

I'm not familiar with the different lubes people tend to use on their keys. I'm thinking silicon based, but someone else should chime in.

These are cherry stabilizers on the Ducky right? You can try blowing into the stabilizer with some compressed air first to see if that helps loosen up any gunk.

I actually had a can of air but Ive been using it to blow dust off my desk and now i've run out, damnit.. will try that next time I get a can

I had a similar problem with the"A" key on my Ducky Shine II a few weeks ago.  At first I though it was something wrong inside the switch.  As it turned out, there was some flashing (extra plastic material) that was preventing the brown stem from popping all the way back up out of the switch housing.

The area in green is what a normal switch should look like.

The are in red is the area where I trimmed off the said extra plastic in the lower right of the switch housing.

To lube a switch with an LED, is there a way to lube it from the outside?  Or do I really need to remove the LED and pop off the top of the switch housing?

It's strange but also kinda makes sense, but I find it's gotten a little bit better just a few hours later after I posted this thread. It seems there may be a breaking in period of some kind.

I'll continue to see how it feels in a few day's time, I hope it'll get even better. I haven't been able to get it completely stuck anymore now, though it still gets a little bit sticky at times.
