I GOT THE FILCO MINILA!
« on: Mon, 15 April 2013, 15:59:45 »
I love it! The small space bar doesn't bother me at all. It does take a little bit of getting used to but it is wonderful. I am glad i got it. BTW, there is NO FILCO PING!

aigh... I think the small space bar is great.. my problem has been that my layout is 1 key wider on the right, so can't use smaller space bar, or anything without stabilizers.

you had me up until "no filco ping".  this is impossible as the ping is from the costar stabilizers. so unless they went all out and installed plate mounted cherry corp stabs the ping will be there. perhaps not yet.... but it will appear. it is inevitable. it is costar. THIS IS COSTAR!!!! (kicks costar stabs down well)

I don't know because i have never used the HHKB JP edition. I do love this keyboard though. The small space bar is not even a problem. It makes me realize how unnecessary a large space bar is.  :D

Hmmm..... I think this is only the case with women. and the fact that your arms are closer together, therefore you wouldn't ever need a wider layout, and you could be comfortable with the confining space of regular qwerty, and thus ALSO not need a large space bar..

Maybe. But a lot of men seem to like the HHKB and that is even smaller. Now when i look at my keyboard at work, which is a regular size keyboard, i noticed that only a very small part of my space bar is being pressed (the oil from my fingers shows on one particular part of the key). Either way, i think that Filco really did a good thing with this keyboard though it isn't a good fit for everyone. When i first heard about this keyboard i was positive that i wasn't going to get it but i am glad i changed my mind.

I don't quite understand why it exists. It's too heavy to be a portable and the layout is horrendous for any useful everyday heavy usage. Not that I haven't been tempted to order it to find out if there are any actual merits... but would someone explain it please apart from 'it's leet because it's different'.

I just got mine today! I would have preferred a bit bigger spacebar but it isn't as big of a problem as I originally expected. So far I'm enjoying it a lot but definitely need to give it more time to draw an overall conclusion.

I ended up selling it ... I think with time I could have gotten used to the key shift / spacebar, I just never intended on making it my primary keyboard. My initial purchase was mainly driven by curiosity.  ;D

I'm guessing it was the one listed on E-bay that had a very similar countertop :).

I tried to convince my buddy to buy it.  I haven't talked to him in a few days so I'm not sure if he did, but I certainly hope so!

It came with a plastic covering that the Leopolds and other Filcos come with. I use that.

Yes I agree, what do the extra keys next to it do? what size is it also?

I meant that in your photo, you have the Minila sitting on top of the laptop keyboard.  Doesn't it sit on the keys of the laptop?

It really doesn't. Sometimes the rubber things on the bottom of the keyboard will hit a key, but i move the external keyboard just a little and it fixes that problem. Also, i can tell immediately if i didn't put the keyboard in the right spot so it doesn't interrupt my work.
