What are clack keys, and why is a single keycap so expensive?

I specifically made the Clack Info Thread and the Clack Wiki to answer these questions. Check those out and I think you'll get a good picture of what they are. :D

Welcome to GH!

They're "collectable" made by "clackfactory"

There's really nothing at all special about the key itself, it's completely an aesthetic thing..

IMO, the skulls are quite ugly, the other few are ok, but honestly I find them uncreative and merely plays on well established color themes, such as candy corn, gummy/jelly bean colored blue..

Now, the question is...

Should you buy one......

It would seem the keyboard forum is populated by kids and ineffective adults... and some are quite irrational... would I personally make a bet on human stupidity in this case...

No.. not in this case,  stupid people are usually poor, which means if you put your money in "clacks"  it takes too long for that to turn over.  You're better off betting on apple stock, that stuff is solid every new product cycle ever since the iphone..

Clack keys are produced by Click Clack, a member here on Geekhack. They're a fairly dense keycap and people like them for their array of colors. Why they sell for such gratuitous amounts of money is because of the time between the sales of said keys. The last sale was on 4:20, previous to that was the Hack Orange Sale in late September. People go nuts.

Long story short, CCs are a first world problem.

You need to hoard at least two custom Korean keyboards and plenty of these weird keycaps... and post kitsch images of them, then you'll be cool around here.

Don't let these guys run you off. If you like them, get some. Pay what you think you'd like to. If you don't like em, then collect something else. Just enjoy your time here ^__^

I like Clacks so I'm getting some. =shrugs=  I'm also collecting GH and SC2 related caps.

I have often wondered the same thing. Thanks for posting the link to the info thread!

I find them hideous myself, but people collect lots of strange things. So whatever floateth your bark.

Yes the skulls are hideous indeed... the candy corn one looks alright, but candy corn tastes like crap, why anyone would want a keycap reminding them of how bad candy corn tastes, this is crazy..

and the October fest one, come on, the concept is sound but.... beer froth depicted by solid white, fail....

Clacks are the endall beall of keyboards. We buy $600 Korean Keyboards just to provide the best canvas for which to apply these amazing works of art.

I'm perfectly happy without some silly precious keycap which cost pennies to produce. It will be a grand day when someone copies the design and produces them by the thousands.

tp, what is with all the rage against cf and his keys?

I mean I haven't been here that long, but I haven't seen you spew venom on anything else than this topic. I am just really am confused why you seem to bear so much animosity against this user and the success he has selling his keys. Is it because he is successful? Maybe it like how some people despise apple and its fan base for buying their products. I would think that if you didn't like them you just wouldn't buy them, but discouraging other people from showing interest in them by calling them kids or stupid them doesn't seem mature in itself.

Seriously, did clickclack burn you personally somehow?

as an aside, buying Apple stock near the top is pretty bad advice since premium prices chic Apple stuff commands is slowly being eroded by better products vis Samsung, ASUS, etc.

Maybe it was a poor choice of words, but the comments do seem pretty disparaging not just toward people who are "investing" in them (which I haven't seen), but mostly toward people showing a cursory interest in them.

If you consider calling cc a swindler not insulting but a compliment, I see how we could misunderstand each other.

Insulting an artists work is no less than insulting the artist. You're a sad little man, with nothing better to do than try to uplift yourself by putting others down.

You are good for a laugh, and to know what a truly f***ked up person really is.

Lol so true, looking at it from a positive perspective, tp's trolling problem and general attitude towards everything makes me realize how lucky I am to not be THAT ****ed up in the head!

Again you're reading it wrong..

for example.. Say you don't like pencil drawings and think all pencil drawings are crap... you say that... Does that insult every person who draws with a pencil?  NO... it does not. :D   It doesn't even insult any "specific" person who draws with a pencil, even if you point directly to his work... because what you're said is... You don't like pencil drawings...

Should the artist feel insulted, it's due to his own hubris and the fact that NOT everyone will like "their work".. what of it.

However, you could simply say "I don't like skull key caps" and be done with it. But you have to create a thread AND a sequel?
