Metal mesh cable sleeving
« on: Mon, 22 April 2013, 23:55:51 »
In January, I posted about my cat chewing through my Cherry keyboard's cable.  IvanIvanovich hooked me up with another cable, although it had an incompatible connector and was bigger in diameter than the previous one.  I also had some trouble with a couple of the keys so I finally ordered a new replacement this week.  I am leery about putting out the new keyboard and just having the damn cat chew through the cable.  I put some habanero sauce on my current cable.  I thought about sleeving the wire as I have plenty of black plastic sleeving.  I recently bought some new toslink cables from monoprice that had metal mesh sleeving around the cable.  So, I was wondering if anyone knew where I could get three feet of the stuff [with a smaller diameter) to sleeve my keyboard cable.  Anyone?  [picture below]

this is not metal mesh cable
it just a normal silver nylon sleeve.
i'm using the exact same optical cable from monoprice

Really??  From their site:

Monoprice mentions metal mesh jacket twice on that page.  Check it out yourself. http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10229&cs_id=1022904&p_id=2765&seq=1&format=2

Actually, my cat doesn't chew all cables.  Just the occasional cable that is dangling and is small in diameter.  I think if I sleeve it it will be big enough that he won't like it.  I would think that the metal would not be something he'd like to even chew on.  Not to mention that the weave is pretty tight.  Did you click on the pic to enlarge the details?

Hmm.. yea if you bought it 3-4yrs ago, you guys might be talking about 2 different models.

Yup.  Mine is definitely a metal.  I just want the sleeving so that I can do it myself.  I just need a smaller diameter.  I can't seem to find the same kind anywhere online.
