Realforce 104UG "High-Profile" key feels.
« on: Sun, 02 June 2013, 02:45:31 »
Hello, I'm so curious about this keyboard, I heard that high-profile will not comfortable as normal ones with any keyboard uses cherry switches. But this keyboard is using Topre switches which made me feel in love at the first touch. But it's for Realforce 87u, HHKB and FC660C. Can anyone tell me about key feels differences between Realforce 104UG "High-Profile" and the others which are using Topre switches also ?  :p

I think you are going to have to re-type this one....

I have one of these high-profile boards...also had a Leo FC660C. Both boards use the 45g switches (iirc) which are extremely nice. I passed the Leo on because I found the layout just a tad too compact. I'm now looking to move the Topre along as I find the higher profile a tad awkward as well.  The Topre switches are lovely...but just seem to be drawn to my MX blues...go figure.

I will be getting this. I find high flat profile is most to my liking. if you are old enough to have put miles on a selectric you might feel the same way.

lol, I was drunk a little bit, I couldn't control what I was typing.  ;D

So the point was, I didn't have a chance to type on any high-profile keyboard. Some of my friends told me that high-profile is uncomfortable especially when you are typing on high-profile keyboard which uses cherry switches. But this keyboard is using Topre switches so I'm just curious about how does it feel to type on Realforce 104UG "High-Profile"?

It probably depends on your typing style. Professional stenos type with their wrists raised; most of us prefer to rest them (which likely contributes to carpal tunnel). With high profile I can imagine (but not confirm until I get my R4 caps) that the severity of the angled profiles will require either a taller wrist rest or hovering the wrists.

I use a forearm rest and pivot near the elbow. No wrist movement to cause carpel tunnel, and effort needed for hovering :)

that might be why. I do not rest my wrists. I have never sustained an injury.

The Carrington dude is the only GHer who posted about it yet, and he's currently selling his. No real review outside the fact he didn't like the high profile keys.

Can't say...only other Topre I has was a Leo. Both were extremely smooth and nice. I think the Leo might have been a hair crisper, but pretty darn close.
