HHKB weird feeling when pressing hotkeys fast
« on: Tue, 11 June 2013, 19:41:44 »
Hello folks,

I've been using HHKB for 3 weeks, and something still bothers me. When I bottom keys kind of fast I can feel like as if something is rubbing against plastic. That happens to most keys except for larger ones, but it's more distinctive on some of them ('k', 'j') for me. It feels better when I don't bottom keys and press kind of slow, but sometimes I still feel that and it's like scratching a piece of paper with a nail.
Have you noticed anything similar, is this something normal or something is wrong with my keyboard?

Thanks!

there might be an extra spring under there, take the board apart.

if it's under warranty , and you're willing to wait 6 weeks, then send it in. :))

there's pretty much nothing you can do from the outside.

Hm, is that on purpose? Or just a production failure?

mm.. the springs are so light and small, and coincidentally 2 can fit together almost seamlessly,  so ... it's just a fact of life issue.. if it's not the spring there might be manufacturing debre inside the switch.   but these are mechanically simple so it's not like a cherry switch that can more easily break if you take one apart.

I've taken it apart and spring look just fine. I didn't find anything that could affect that kind of a feel. Really weird. But that's definitely because springs are touching the plate...

I've made few more experiments and it seems like my desk amplifies that for some reason. When I type on my laps, I don't feel that at all (almost). That's interesting.

Maybe it's because its mounted on plastic instead of plate?
