Best place? I enjoyed driving/walking around Zion national park in Utah.
Grand canyon in Arizona left me speechless too.

I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. It is not the most interesting place I have ever been. But I spent 3 months on the island La Palma, and I think it was the most peaceful I have ever been.

India was pretty mind blowing, like another world. Specifically way south in the Tamil Nadu region. I don't know if it was the best place I've ever been, but certainly the most memorable and interesting.

Hawaii. I always thought all the nice paradise pictures you see online were edited or touched up to make the photos look nice, but it's exactly like in real life.

Exactly this. I hope to go back one day.
It is hard to imagine a candidate more unworthy to serve as president of the United States than Donald Trump. He has proved himself morally unfit for an office that asks its occupant to put the good of the nation above self-interest. He has proved himself temperamentally unfit for a role that requires the very qualities — wisdom, honesty, empathy, courage, restraint, humility, discipline — that he most lacks.
Those disqualifying characteristics are compounded by everything else that limits his ability to fulfill the duties of the president: his many criminal charges, his advancing age, his fundamental lack of interest in policy and his increasingly bizarre cast of associates.

I agree it's a great place for those "photos"... but all the sweating... even if you're not doing anything.. all the sweating... I couldn't enjoy myself due to all the sweating... and this wasn't even when I was really really fat...

Hawaii for me also. Went with a friend, for free, got off the plane, took a taxi and immediately rented two Harleys ($119 per day). Cruised the big insland in style for four days. Was awesome. I think the laid back attitudes was the best part.

LOL your list has some of the places that I hate most.  I don't like Vegas because the technology sector here sucks and that's what I do for a living, I want to move back to California but my wife likes it here.  I don't like Miami because it reminded me of a tropical Vegas, which makes sense considering I was there working on a project for a Vegas hospitality industry client expanding out there.  Driving around in Washington DC is just retarded if you are used to cities designed in a grid pattern.  Seriously, one way roundabouts EVERYWHERE that change direction depending on the time of the day?  I'd rather sit at a stop light.  A DC local told me that the roads were originally designed to be confusing on purpose in case we ever got invaded, so I guess job well done.  Colorado seems like it would be a cool place to do some outdoor activities, and I hear they have some of the best crab in the country in Charleston, so I would probably agree with you there.  You should stop by Vegas this weekend, the weather will be nice.  The forecast says 117 degrees, but depending on where you are in the city it gets hotter.  LOL at least I don't live in Arizona where they get into the 120s.  I remember coming back to 115 degree weather from 125 in Lake Havasu, and feeling glad about the "cooler" weather.

Favorite places I have been:
Pretty much any major city in California in or around the San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, and Sacramento metro areas.
Palawan, Philippines
Negril, Jamaica

Not to mention a lot of the locals really don't like people from the mainland and some make it pretty obvious, they just tolerate them for the revenue they bring in.

Nah, I was out of the will of God for my life when I did that.  If I had it to do over,  I would skip the travel and adventure and gotten my BSEE degree.  Yeah, I made over $10,000/month, but I blew through it like water when I came home and had 4 months of play time.  I did have expensive toys that none of my friends had, but so what?  I was able to confirm that the USA was the #1 place in the world like they always told us in school.  That was in the late 80's/early 90's though.  I'm not sure about now.  The worst place was Chittagong, Bangladesh.  I saw small children and infants just abandoned in the streets.

Portland's liberal values are one of the things that makes it such a great place to live.  The Seattle Freeze phenomenon is real enough, I think it's driven by the huge number of transient tech workers cycling through the area, making it hard to put down roots and make long-term connections.  That said, I still stay in touch with friends I made in the two years I was there, even though many of them have migrated to other states.

Hawaii is nice, especially Lanai.  But the cost of living there is insane, employers treat living in Hawaii as a benefit to be deducted from wages.

I enjoyed my time in So Cal but I don't think I could live there.

Lived in Hawaii for almost four years and while it was nice at first I was glad to get off the islands. Cost of living, as mentioned previously, is insane. I got bored driving around seeing the same things over and over. However, I use some of the less "touristy" beaches in Hawaii as the standard to compare all other beaches that I visit since then.

I've frequented a bunch of the islands in the Caribbean. St. Martin and St. Barts stand out in my mind but that's from a purely flying perspective.

Enjoyed Ireland the couple times I've been through there and would like to go back and have more time to explore. Same with Germany.

I was born on Okinawa and that's also on my to-do list to revisit, along with mainland Japan.

Kuwait was interesting and the place I've been that I have no desire to go back to is Iraq.

Did you go to all the islands in Hawaii?  I wonder which one has the best beaches?

It depends on the types of beaches you are looking, season, and which side of the islands.

Maui has some nice beaches in the off season. Molokai and Lanai have some nice hidden gems that are off the beaten path. Kauai has some really nice beaches as well depending on the season. Some of the beaches on the big island I remember being really really nice, a few of them with a good amount of rocky outcroppings and lava rock can get sharp.

If I didn't feel like island hopping and staying close to home I'd just hit up Kailua or Lanikai beach. There's also a really nice sandbar northwest of Kaneohe bay we used to go to a lot.

i'd have to say venice.

i grew up in nyc, so i had sidewalks all my life.

then i moved out to va and the only sidewalks are either on townvillage properties or in the city, the same with pa.

i went to venice and can walk everywhere, with no regard for a stop light, it made me think that if i grew up in venice and visited nyc, i'd be dead within a minute figuring out the stoplights, and in nyc the only where the traffic lights is not obeyed is chinatown, cuz little old chinese ladies do not give a fck, and if you've been in there you know what i mean, also you know not to drive there.

Hawaii for me also. Went with a friend, for free, got off the plane, took a taxi and immediately rented two Harleys ($119 per day). Cruised the big insland in style for four days. Was awesome. I think the laid back attitudes was the best part.

they're not laid back.. they're lethargic because of the heat, if they had to do anything intense, they'd sweat to death.

Deep down they're the same human beings who are total jerks given a cooler climate.

Have you ever been to Hawaii? I have a vacation house there and the weather is great. It's the about same temperature all year long. There is only about a 5 to 10 degrees difference between the summers (75 to 85) and winters (65 to 80) there. The southern part of the United States is much hotter than Hawaii most of the time.

While I was there I lived in an apartment that didn't have any kind of air condition. All we had to do was open the windows and the balcony screen door and the sea breeze kept it pretty nice all year.

A lot of my friends that I made while there that were local to the island were Filipino. They were all good people. Laid back and easy going yes, lazy and lethargic...not so much.

Orlando. It was my first international travel. Cheap food, clothes and hardware. Spent my whole budget year in 20 minutes at Compusa. :))

I'm happy to see that none of you are judging your favorite place by how hot the hookers were there.

It depends... I need less than 20 °C, especially at night, and when it's more than 25 °C I turn into zombie mode. I suspect  there's higher humidity as well. -_-
