Where to buy cables for Filco?
« on: Tue, 25 June 2013, 23:34:04 »
Hey guys, so i just had a hand at making a detachable USB cable mod for my filco, Thankfully i didnt use my stock cable, but at the same time the cable i used didnt work. Im just wondering if theres a place that i can order cables to make my Filco detachable, without me having to go through the hassle ?
also looking for a Tenkeypad ( filco ) USB cable as well ( unrelated incident - cat ate the connector / most of the cable)

let me know !
thanks in advance

You could buy custom sleeved ones from mimic cables.

all the custom cable stores set up by users are shut right now, which is annoying since i wanted to give this KB away ( once finished with modding ) as a present

otherwise i'd be more than happy to support people that run their own businesses :)

"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Pexon is another option, and probably cheaper to ship if you are in Europe , can vouch for his cables

Mimic, Pexon, Nubbinator, and Whiskerbox all make cables. I'm not sure if Whiskerbox is still actively doing it though. The TechKeys cables are Mimic cables.

I may consider thicker cables for anything that's analogue.. but with digital things... It's a total waste...

Make your own cable.  It's cheap and easy as evidenced by all these custom cable shops popping up.

If you want to make it yourself, here's the part number for the housing and here's a pinout

I'd do one for you, but I don't have a crimper or the crimps necessary for the housing.
