Sapphire 6970 $160 on Newegg
« on: Sat, 29 June 2013, 13:33:22 »
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202035

I'm considering pulling the trigger so I can crossfire. But I really would rather this was $150. Ughghh.

Probably not the best deal for anyone who wants a new rig but for me I really want this..

Um...... considering we've seen 7870 xt (le)  @ $160 after selling the game coupon, performance is equivalent to a stock 7970 when the 7870 is fully OCed...

Draw what you will from that..

It's 160, but still, don't other cards of similar performance draw a lot less power?  For example, a 660 will only use one 6-pin PCI-E plug, this takes a six and eight.

It goes in a desktop.. why does power draw matter..

we're seeing 650 watt seasonics @ $50.. these days.

Yeah 160 my bad. I'm not worried about the power draw. I can't xfire my 6950 with the 660. I do have unlocked shaders and all that.

I don't think I'd trust my components to a $50 PSU idk. I'd have to look into the brand...

This deal really only should appeal to someone who has a 6970 or 6950 already.

Like I said in OP. Anyone looking to build a rig now (not simply upgrade) wouldn't be interested in this.

Just thought I'd show it cause this card can also be good for mining if I understand correctly.

Because here it's 47 degrees, and so every watt not generated is one less watt the air-conditioner has to cope with.

I'm serious.  In this part of the country, summer AC is the major component of your electric bill.  Moreover, the fact you have a loaded PC belching out hundreds of watts of waste heat is a comfort factor to sit near.

Okay, if you have a reason, like Crossfire, to pick the 6970, fine.  But all else equal, why wouldn't you pick a cooler-running card offering comparable performance.

really? where do you live, and does what you live in have insulation, because I don't think they make an AC unit small enough that it couldn't handle a computer.

plz don't take that as offense to your livelihood.. I am merely confused by the fact that you HAVE an AC, and it's somehow inadequate for something as trivial as a PC

I don't disagree with your choice that everything being equal, you should pick the cooler running card.

But, yea,, AMD prices are MUCH MUCH better than Nvidia prices right now because of the game bundle that you can sell

Arizona.

The thing is, most homes here-- this one included-- have central AC with a limited number of thermostats and zones.  In most normal sized houses, you get only one.  If you turn the AC down lower to compensate for the one warm room with a PC in it, you're making the rest of the house colder than it has to be to be comfortable, and that wastes money.

looks like a good deal!!! I have 2 x 6870's with 16gb ram and I5 3570, everything at stock and just rips trough games like its nothing. I had OCed the CPU with stock voltages to 4.5GHz stable just for testing of how far can it go with the closed loop water cooling, back at stock speeds now. Ugh the only worth upgrade for me would be probably 9970 or 2x 9870's, yeah that's like 2 more generations of waiting, and probably when I upgrade the GPU with the 9xxx series then I'll OC the CPU to 4.5Ghz.....

Yeah I"m trying to justify spending the money, and that might be the best reason.. no reason to upgrade for a long time.. but I could always get a nicer monitor.. or upgrade CPU/Mobo.. hrm..haha

so... put the computer in the normally coolest room... or is that your only computer so you can't spank it in the living room with your parents there..

seems like you don't read up much. the only reason I went 2x6870 is because they are the best ATI/AMD that made scaling wise in CF. 2x6870 kills single 6970, 2x6870 is only 3-7% slower than 2x6970 depending on the game ( pls don't speak of CF issues, that's a long gone problem, nobody have those issues) and I don't care for paying 20 bucks more per year for electricity lol.

maeby spending $320 for an outdated CF set up it justifies in your case by gaining minimal, does not in mein. Why would I upgrade with same series cards for a puny bump in performance? even 8xxx series wont justify because I run all games on ultra, bragging rights? Bragging rights when I CF 9970 and hit the CPU to 4.5Ghz, now that a worth upgrade and I'm sure the CPU would be capable to push both cards to max.

I didn't knew that my ASUS 27" is considered low res at 1920x1080..... point is open benchmarks of 6870 CF and 6970 CF and compare them, 1080 and higher res and tell me how can I justify upgrading from 2x 6870 to the same generation which would be 2x 6970..... while 8xxx is around the corner. LOL butter smooth as silk, even BF3 that I never bought it but played it the beta, was running it on ultra.  Only purchase I can justify since would be the 9xxx series or the 8xxx had to be really that good to made me upgrade.

Since you pursued cf, i assumed you'd be running more than 1080p. and yes 1080p is now considered low res.
