I've been shaving my back and shoulder hair basically my entire life, 1-2x a week in the shower (back hair grows faster in Summer???) and today I was gonna do my same old routine, but realized there is zero point. I've been alone my entire life and never date, no one wants to **** me, and I never take my shirt off in public anyway. Who am I doing this for? What is the point? Why do anything to improve my image, really? I think I'm just going to stop all upkeep for a while and completely let myself decline, as I now truly see no logical reason to keep healthy and well-kempt. I'm going full Ted Kazinski, no more shaving, working out, watching my weight, haircuts, or planning outfits. This Summer I am going to get real gross and see if I'm happier that way.
You should still have some routine (you should maintain a healthy weight for example). But if you feel more comfortable/want to start not shaving and growing your hair out like that, then go for it. I do think you should be somewhat well-kept and still exercise. Do stuff differently but don't go on a decline. It's only gonna make things worse for you.
I agree with Rhienfo for the most part. It's fine if you forego maintaining your appearance, but you might regret letting your health decline as a result of the way you're temporarily feeling. A little extra fat might actually be good, depending on your current build. There was a girl who used to work at the Cool Stuff Inc in Winter Park who I overheard mentioning to one of her coworkers that she prefers a man with a beer belly. "More cushion for the pushin'" were her exact words. My of my female friends once told me she prefers men who are balding, so...
I started trimming my body hair with clippers a couple years ago for both appearance and general comfort (you know how gross we can get in Florida). Curiously, I've been letting my head and facial hair go wild.

Also curiously, my friend has realized women seem to have a strange attraction to him when he lets himself go (days without showering, no haircuts, grubby clothes, etc.). It might be pheromones or something similarly primal. So, maybe this will be good for you. I look forward to updates.
