I hope I made a good decision...
« on: Wed, 07 August 2013, 19:04:39 »
Hey guys!
Im totally new here but I have been reading these forums for quite some time to make a decision for my new keyboard purchase.
I currently have a corsair K90 but I would like a new keyboard, hopefully one that is fully mechanical. I love the MX reds so far and I play Starcraft 2 quite a lot, so I was really looking for a good keyboard to invest in. I guess I value gaming over typing, as being a engineering student, most of my work does not require heavily typing.
I narrowed it down to the topre 87u 45g or 55g, or the ducky YOTS with MX red cherrys.
I guess after a few days of reading while having nothing to do at work, I understand that topres are mainly for typing heavily, but not for gaming so much, and to drop +300$ for a new board with no LED or easy key cap replacements, I finally folded and ordered the YOTS through ncix.ca. I initially thought that they ran out, because most sites have out of stock with no pre orders left.
Anyways, thanks for the posts you guys have done and hopefully I made the right decision.
And it also helps that I love aluminum bodies or at least plates, like my K90. Only thing is I want a higher quality board, and if I were to order a 3rd party case, i am looking at +200$ ish i think...
I have to wait a month now till I receive it... gotta get my fix....... (shakes)

You'll probably love the YoTS. I pre-ordered a Shine III, but I also recently bought a Topre Realforce 87U 55g Uniform. I love the Topre board, it's my new favorite.

I was weary of the topre just because of the amount of money they cost and considering I have never used the topre actuator before. Perhaps if I ever see one myself and was able to try it out a bit, I would like them. Considering I like the MX reds, I vision the 45g topre to be very similar. If I ever begin to type heavily, I would most likely invest in a topre though.

You'll like the yots. Like other duckies I expect it to be a solid board and one of the best for backlighting. White backlight and aluminum frame!

Just FYI, MX Reds and 45g Topre are NOTHING alike..45g Topre will feel like they take considerably more force to push down (and they do, all the effort is upfront..) and they will have a bump....and you'll bottom out when using them (which doesn't matter but just so you know).  The closest thing to MX Reds Topre wise, IMO, are 30g Topres.....

I just got my topre RF 87u 55g and love them. Although if you are playing games like starcraft it may be better to get more of a tactile keyboard or sound feedback keyboard so that you know when you click the button. The RF87u is great for typing and gaming, you cannot go wrong with one. Either way you'll get used to the keyboard you're buying!
