Here are some reason to not buy it.
☻ Android
☻ Enjoy two pre-loaded SHIELD-optimized games right out of the box.
☻ Access a catalog of over 100 Android games on Google Play™ and NVIDIA TegraZone™.
☻ May not fit in your pocket
☻ Play on SHIELD's console-grade game controller.
☻ Featuring a new and innovative PC game streaming capability available in BETA at launch*, SHIELD gives you the power to wirelessly access your GeForce® GTX-powered computer from the comfort of your couch. Play your favorite PC games on a full-size controller with ultra-low latency thanks to SHIELD's game-speed Wi-Fi and the fast performance of GeForce GTX GPUs.
☻ 5-inch 720p retinal quality multi-touch display for high-fidelity visuals.
☻ Battery life of five to ten hours

It's a phone with a controller attached.

No thanks.

Buy it = because it keeps the economy rolling along

Then sell to me for some ridiculously low price when you're done with it.

Don't forget that, in true nVidia fashion, it has a little fan in it to help with cooling. Makes me giggle. :)

I go to Nvidia somewhat regularly, and they have little fans everywhere. It's their thing.

Rather fanny.

why?

your phone can't do this?

can you stream games from you computer to your phone?  i'd be interested in what you have.

the only reason why i'm interested is in game streaming but it doesn't look like it supports enough to warrant the $300 price..  I guess i'll pass.  after looking into a little more its basically an android ipod equivilant on a controller.

EDIT:  my idea was to use my VPN to play games when i get dragged away from my computer

its not worth it for android games, but its brilliant at streaming steam big picture, so its a case of whether you wanna play steam games whilst sitting on the toilet, and what that is worth to you really

that part has nothing to do with your streaming experience.

Your wify consistency will determine streaming experience if you're in the yard. VPN would make this so much worse because you'd be encrypting data that NO ONE cares about. and it takes time to encrypt

Overall if you game on wify, FAIL, if you also game on a controller, Combo Fail.

I recently attempted a wify game server.. FAIL, erratically increased ping up to 50ms over wired connection @ 20feet from router.

i wasn't talking about tunneling from my yard but more like from a friend's house.  it uses a proprietary protocol for streaming that's supposed to be much more efficient than previous attempts.  regardless i think think im going to pass.  take the 300 bucks and buy myself a nice monitor.

thanks guys.

I'd do great at this.

AT&T likes to throttle our internet randomly, like right now... and for the past 6 months...

AT&T likes to throttle our internet randomly, like right now... and for the past 6 months...

I had been with Clearwire for years, ever since living in Texas.  WiMAx internet, consistently 5-7Mbps donw, 2-4Mbps upload speeds.  But two weeks ago they decided to drop my connection speeds into the gutter.  Called tech support, opened tickets, checked status... no improvement.  So I ordered FIOS internet, had it installed last weekend.  20Mbps download and upload.

Of course, Verizon did send me a nasty-gram that I was downloading illegally pirated TV programs, so it's not all blissful.  But unless they start choking my internet access I can live with the random mass-mail.

See apparently I get 4MB/s down, but thats pure bull, I never get more than 500/600KB/s, once I saw 900, but only for a few milliseconds. Then it all went tits up again :(

Why does everyone lie to me?

They aren't lying. That's real all right. Internet speed is measured in Mb, not MB. Megabits vs MegaBytes. Big difference. You're getting what you're supposed to.
