Help me with my dilemma please...
« on: Tue, 27 August 2013, 02:01:08 »
first of all, i can NOT get both, budget permits for one of them only.

QFR with blues
http://www.ebay.com/itm/CM-Storm-QuickFire-Rapid-SGK-4000-GKCL1-US-Keyboard-Wired-BlackPS-2-USB-/231002852838?pt=PCA_Mice_Trackballs&hash=item35c8d7cde6

or

keycool TKL with blues and PBT caps from qtans ebay store
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Key-Cool-87-Mechanical-Gaming-keyboard-Cherry-MX-blue-W-Gray-PBT-Caps-/290933479639?pt=PCA_Mice_Trackballs&hash=item43bcfc98d7

prices are roughly the same, question is, should i try the keycool, or go with the "safe bet" on QFR? (already have 2 QFRs)

I've heard decent things about KeyCool. I vote for the keycool I'm pretty sure it's like a Leopold clone? Especially if you already have 2 QFRs.

Plus PBT all the way!
I love Elzy

If you already have 2 TKLs, what's the point of getting a 3rd?

Why not try something radical like the Ergodox?

Either is fine, IU have both and they are both great!

The QFR looks like the unbranded one, but you might not like the legends on the keycaps.

KeyCool has PBT keycaps which will not shine anywhere near as quickly.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Hello world. (first post)

I ordered that same exact keycool TKLwith blues from qtan few days ago... He doesn't have it. He says he has only one more with reds...

Don't know why he didn't remove it from the listing.

Just to let you know upfront.

does ergo is response for everything even religion  can be relied upon it?

@skuko if you already got qfr why not try others? It's cool that qtan have it/doesn't for a minute but there are other suppliers right? unless ur looking excuse for yourself but u made decision long time before even creating this topic:P.

I would go with the Keycool.  It's not listed on Qtang's Web Store, but if you email or PM him, he might be able to give you a little better price.  I have 2 QFRs and 7 Keycools (Yes 7!)  Both are decent boards, but I prefer the Keycools because they are a bit more conservative/traditional (including the keycap font).  I have a Gray on Gray with Browns Keycool (that I got from Qtang).  This newer manufactured board is a bit lighter than the older Keycools, so if you plan to transport your board, this is a plus.  However, it still sits firmly on my desk.

keycaps are not an issue, i'd replace the ones on QFR anyway.

i'm kinda put off the keycool after finding out about uneven key spacing...

http://deskthority.net/news-reviews-f4/keycool-87-blue-mx-t2650.html

dunno if that's a real issue. i don't like the printing and font on the keycool caps either, so it's likely i would replace those too.

decisions, decisions.

btw. it''s weird, but qtan lists the gray on gray with blue switches as "available" on the ebay store.

If you decide on the Keycool, email or PM Qtang.  He can probably give you a few dollars off by buying it through his Web Store.  This omission often happens (intentionally) with his offers.

I hadn't noticed any uneven keycap spacing on my KeyCool, but I must admit to not having looked that closely.

The ones in the link might just be because the keycaps were not on properly - there is really not much else that could cause that kind of mis-spacing.

I have the QFR and I love it, but the keycool does have PBT keycaps which would probably be the dealbreaker for me now that I have my DK9008 :P
