POLL: Common Cherry MX Switch Popularity VS Pricing

So a while back we had a mini debate on why there's different pricing on different switches (Blue and Black being cheaper than Red and Brown).

But since it was off topic and I don't want to derail that thread so I've decided to make a new thread about this.  Based from the results from www.mechanicalkeyboards.com this is their order of popularity:

Brown Cherry MX (472)
Blue Cherry MX (338)
Red Cherry MX (319)
Black Cherry MX (250)
Other Cherry MX (192)

Which I think makes sense because Brown is the most balanced out of all the switches.  While Blue and Red is a love and hate relationship.  And Black is just simply too heavy for most people.

But why do manufactures claim that Blue and Black are the best selling one and therefore have the best price per unit?

One of my guess is that since it's already cheap (eg. CM Storm QFR MX Blue is only $45 now with rebate, while MX Red is $80).  So for those that have no knowledge in mechanical boards they'll just buy the cheapest one to try it out.  And since blue and brown are typically expensive so in comparison people are less likely to buy it (if they know nothing about the switch to begin with).

In actuality Brown should be the cheapest switch.  Though I figure I want to test this theory so I made another poll to see if we can match the results from mechanicalkeyboards.com.

I think black switches are used a lot in the industry and are not represented as high at that particular site which sells regular keyboards to regular folks. You would probably get different ratios if you were to ask Cherry, and they are probably basing the prices on switches on the demand they see, not what one particular reseller which caters to a certain part of the market sees. My 2c

I thought the price is based on how many units the reseller buys from Cherry no?  For example, if CM Storm buys 1,000,000 MX Blue they can get a better price per unit from Cherry than say for example 1,000 MX Red.  Then it gets reflected in price afterwards.  Unless Cherry has a predetermined price beforehand.

Where is the qfr in rebate?

Oh it was probably last week or 2 weeks ago here in Canada.  Though if you check prices from time to time you'll notice that QFR MX Blue version does goes on sale a quite frequent.

Based from the poll results, it seems like if people can only pick the main 4 switches, MX Brown is most popular, follow by MX Blue and Red being about the same.

Though if they can have any choice, somehow MX Blue seems most popular.  Maybe because people who likes MX Red and MX Brown typically would rather go for something else.....?

I bet a lot of people who prefer ergo-clears (or topre, for that matter) overall picked browns as their favorite from the 'standard' four.
