Massdrop guys are back at it, this time offering an Al replacement sheet for the top of the ErgoDox.  There are 7 days left and only one buyer so far (I'm not it, I built big one-piece cases for all mine from corrugated), so I figured you guys might not know about it.
If this is a repost, please forgive me; I've not been nearly as active on here since I built my ErgoDoxes (they're basically the perfect board, as far as I'm concerned).

I wanted to get this. But, I'm hoping a fellow geekhacker comes out with a better full replacement case.

It does look a lot better than what I remember the first production aluminium plated looked. Not sure if it's worth $42 but it does look nice.

Of course if I got one, I'd have to add some white side-light LED's to light up the sides. :P

Oh... good call.  So I read of one Redditor who swapped his LEDs and his resistors?  Not sure, but if it shows up better than the current layout, I'm willing to try it.

hmm

I wanted these when they said they would sell these more than a month ago but now that i see it is just the top layer and not the bottom as well, as good as the quality is, i think im gonna pass.

having some matte surface acrylic layers made for my 2 ergodox right now anyways. :D :P

If so, was wondering if you could confirm what one of the comments in the thread said about it being cheaper when selected as an option for the full kit?  I think they said it was a $25 add-on, in that case.

kind of a waste of money......  there wouldn't be any structural improvement from this.

And the remaining 3 inner plates are not cut to high tolerance that whatever aesthetic effect the top sheet may have is Marred by the middle 3...

This is one Ergodox accessory I shall not support...
