Question about MX Whites
« on: Sun, 29 September 2013, 20:00:33 »
Why aren't MX Whites popular on GH or even upon keyboard manufacturers that make MX Green variants? Heavy, clicky yet quiet switch sounds like a wonderful switch to type on. My only concern with clicky switches is that they make a huge ruckus when typing up papers/gaming that disturb others around you! I've had a very brief switch test with MX Whites while I was in a Taiwanese peripherals shop featuring a Ducky Shine 2 78 Version board, and I was surprised to hear how subtle the click was compared to greens. Looking at wikis, whites are pretty much identical to greens minus the hard click, and I'm sure there's bound to be people that enjoy heavy, (quiet) clicky switches but find tactile ones too mushy/gritty.

The only board I could find with MX Whites was the KBT Race 75%, but I'm not too sure if I could get used to the irregular layout. Are there any TKL/Full sized keyboards with MX Whites(milks)?

I've never heard of a ducky with whites. Interesting.

According to the MK description [link] the Ducky 2 78 has both clears and whites! I think that's the only time I've ever seen whites in a Ducky.

@Zeal: Unfortunately, other than a G80-1000 (which AFAIK contains the "old" version of whites), I haven't seen any TKL or full-size white boards and I've been on the lookout constantly. If you don't want to settle for a Race or a Pure, your next step would be a custom board. Which, lets face it, a custom board is something every GHer has on their mind eventually. So you might as well start saving now!

And yes, I agree with you, I am a huge fan of MX White! They are the best.

I have a coolermaster quickfire XT with whites but it's just a protoype board they had made. I believe coolermaster feels whites and greens are too similar to pursue a board with whites.

There are a couple newer cherry boards on ebay that say they have whites but I believe they are confusing clears with whites possibly, it's hard to tell because their pictures look photo-shopped.

And mechanicalkeyboards.com has more than once gotten whites/clears mixed up also, but it would be cool to see some production boards with whites.

Ducky supposedly sells mx white g2pro but it could be a mix-up with clears, that's about it. Easiest way to get mx white board would be to get a custom keyboard.

I don't know about Ducky, but vortex released a race (and pure too maybe) in whites. I have about 200

I ended up putting a lighter spring into it. Though I like heavy switches, I prefer my heavy switches to be loud, like buckling springs. I prefer greens to whites for this reason. So my whites are middle weight (65 g I think) The other 100 is (so far) left as-is. I'll be putting them into my upcoming skeldon build most likely. We'll see if all that mass can't dampen the sound out more.

Anyway, Whites are great, much better than blacks. I am talking about cherry MX switches, of course.

Do you secretly work for CoolerMaster?! I wish they had gone with whites, that way they'd have a loud and soft clicky switch.

Yeah those are MX Clears. I've got their TKL G2Pro brown/clear Hybrid switch keyboard. The full sized one features 108 Clears.
