New Jeep Cherokee: Ugly or Cool?
« on: Wed, 30 October 2013, 16:18:25 »
Anybody seen this lately?

So do you think it's cool, or just butt ugly? I'm siding with the "butt ugly" view.

Front is pretty cool..

The back bumper part with the matt black goes too high up.. If they brought that down just a bit.. or painted it differently.. It'd be better.

As is the back looks like 2 very disjointed pieces.. like it was just taped together..

Ugly. And sad, because the model before this one was actually very, very nice.

The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. All I know is they need to bring back the Scrambler and Comanche.  The small pickup truck market is sparse and could use something new.

Ugly. It looks like one car stacked on top of another, especially from the back.

For a Jeep, it's ugly as sin. For a modern SUV it's completely forgettable save for that weird front grill.

Ugly. Majorly ugly. That disgraces the name of Jeep.

Totally agree.  The ONLY best ever Jeep that was made is the Willy's Model.  Tough, reliable and built for men to drive over any terrain.

The SH!T that is made now is only for car parks and shopping centers.  Which is a pity because you've got other manufacturers that have made better vehicles for that type of habitat.

They should of stuck to their original designs and maybe by now we would of gotten a flexible Jeep design able to cross rivers, mud plains and embankments with ease, instead of ugly, weird shaped rubbish, that looks like it was designed and made by incompetent morons.

I suspect from now on, who would be game enough to stand up and admit to owning that current Jeep, in a crowded room?

Is it bad that that car grew on me a little?  At least it's functional.

And you may disagree, but the Pontiac Aztec and Toyota Prius are the same damn car, only one of them sits a little higher because it's an SUV/crossover and not a sedan.

My stepdad has a Willy's pickup. It's the toughest truck on the planet. Survived a tree falling on it, all we had to replace was the cab.

Hmmmm....

I agree that the Willy's is the toughest JEEP, but toughest in the world? I beg to differ.

Land Rover Defender vs Toyota Land Cruiser vs Willy's Jeep.... FIGHT!

I reckon the Landy would come out on top in terms of toughness / durability / ability. You find Landy spares almost anywhere in Africa due to how popular they are in countries with bad / nonexistent roads (for good reason). Land Cruiser comes a very close 2nd.

Volkswagen are trying to capture some of that market with their Amarok. May succeed, too. Looks better than that new Jeep at least:

I saw two of the new Cherokees roaming around without plates in Flat Rock, MI (which isn't so far from where they're being assembled in OH) and thought they were one of the ugliest vehicles I've seen in person.

Other vehicles well known for being ugly have some distinctive trait that makes them so. These are an all-in-one package of nasty. The proportions are off, the headlights are too narrow, the grille (while maintaining a trademark image) doesn't work on the body at all. The tail lights are tiny and proportionately too high up. It's just overall bad.

Despite this, I'm sure it will sell well because people want a higher seating position while hauling their kids and various belongings around which would fit perfectly fine in a proper sedan. The last true SUV is probably the Wrangler, and before that, the Bronco and K5. Everything else is a mutation of the full size station wagon, a body style that never should have been retired.

It does look ugly, but they do seem to have at least attempted to make it look good and detail it properly, as opposed to your average american car that just looks like a bloated corpse of a car.
So it's a hideous car, but it's an american car that at least somewhat resembles a normal car for once.

It's got detailing similar to what you'll see on european cars, which is a step in the right direction. The overall shape is still crap, and the detailing still looks bad, but it's still a step in the right direction compared to your average american car design.

No.  It looks like the Fiat guys who own Jeep wanted to make the Grand Cherokee look more like a Fiat.  And they succeeded.  That new Grand Cherokee looks like a half-Jeep, half-Fiat hybrid piece of crap.  Or crapola as they say in Italy.

Time to divorce her instantly.  Remember to hide all off shore accounts before letting her know your intent.  Get the best lawyer money could buy, you'll need him because she'll try and scrape every cent out of you and better to deal with such threats, through a 3rd party immediately.

That is why my mrs keeps quiet about cars  8) .

To me it seems like many new cars all look the same.

Same with computers and keyboards - all the same these days.  Back in the day every manufacturer would produce something different, and usually incompatible with other manufacturers.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Dog Ugly
"However, even though I was born in the Mesozoic, I do know what anyone who wants to reach out to young people should say: Billionaires took your money. They took your chance to buy a home. They took your chance at a good education. They stole your opportunities. Billionaires took the things you want in life. If you really want those things, you have to take them back.
That's the message. That's the whole message. Say that every day, not just to reach America's frustrated young white men, but people of every age, race, and gender.
Late-stage capitalism is a wealth-concentration engine, focused on vacuuming up every dollar and putting it in as few hands as possible. Republicans are helping that vacuum suck.
How does a tiny fraction of the population get away with this? They do it by dividing the other 99% of Americans against themselves."
