Available MX Clear boards?
« on: Thu, 31 October 2013, 11:47:25 »
I have a Ducky with Clear switches that I absolutely love, so I've been looking for another Clear board that I can use at work. Unfortunately, there don't seem to be very many options available right now. The only boards I can find are the Leopold FC660M (which won't work because I don't want a 60% board - I need full-size or at least 87%) and the Deck options (which I won't buy on principle because they're hideous and obscenely overpriced.) I had planned on getting a WASD V2, but they apparently will not be getting any more Clear switches for at least 12 months.
Are there any other options out there right now?
I'd rather not have to build or modify a board, though I might end up doing it if I really can't find any other options.

I know a few geekhackers have gotten them recently, perhaps they will chime in!

I heard about them going up on Reddit's MechanicalKeyboards board two days early so it may be worth it to check there as well.

Banggood ships from direct from China right?  that's why they have the low prices and super-snail-like shipping.

Not sure if the profiles are the same but you could always grab a dirt cheap TG3 BL82 off ebay with nicer looking caps and swap most of them.

He claims not to be a banggood rep, just someone who lives in the UK, has had good experiences with them, and is in contact with them. The crusades for them are just part of damage controlling from what GH said about BG.  So the story goes.  Of course, posts like this really don't help the claims against him of shilling and being a rep.  If you want people to stop accusing you of being a shill, stop making posts that make you appear to be one or, if you are a rep, come clean about it.

Don't forget about Cherry which are the easiest to source and cheapest of them all with the G80-3000LQCEU or DE being the most common for around €55. There is also 186* and 349* LQC** though they are less widely available and generally more expensive.

I'd avoid aliwa. He's really shady, giving contradictory messages. He first tells everybody about the clear boards, claiming to be independant from banggood. However, I doubt some random person has that much power over a company like banggood to make them stock a new board. Also, as tacticalstache has said, he's now marked himself as a banggood rep on reddit, despite claiming not to be.

And to the OP, there aren't many boards with clears, but with mechanicalkeyboards.com having a cherry partnership and selling clears for pretty cheap, an extremly viable option is to build or mod your own board with clears

But they are keeping their distance for a little while.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

I was given to understand there was a temporary shortage of clear switches, which has led to a temporary shortage of keyboards based on clear switches.

Geez, that's a long time for clears. Shouldve grabbed one earlier this year
