why does anyone buy anything else?

amoled?  is that worth $400 over the nexus 5.. or is it a matter for subsidized costs on part of data-plans..

I have a Nexus 4 and love it. No reason to pay $600-800 for an unsubsidized phone (I don't do contracts), when you can get the same thing or better for $350-400.

I haven't decided whether to upgrade my Nexus 4 or not. I mean, I'll be getting KitKat, so do I really need new hardware?

did you do the mod to enable lte ?  if you did.. I don't really see the point in upgrading..

but.. the PRICE... it's criminal... that they charge you $800 for an S4 iphone 5 when the nexus 5 is $400

still waiting to see what all is being offered this quarter, looking at the G2, but I need to try out the Note 3 and see if it's 'too big'

Google didn't make it available in my country.

And when it gets here the prices are super inflated... the nexus 7 was almost double the cost in SGD!

Looking at the N5 in detail.... it's crazy for anyone to consider any other phone, unless they're LOCKED to a carrier for 2years..

Same as above, need Verizon service.  any other carrier in NYC just has horrible signal strength and coverage.
So i use the S3 with my unlimited Data grandfathered.

Nope, Nexus 4 LTE signal was only compatible with Rogers and TMobile's 4G LTE band
and it wasn't 100% reliable either.
Also Nexus 4 had no CDMA Radios, so even if you connected to verizon's 4G LTE, you couldn't call as you don't have CDMA Radio and verizon's Call/SMS is still on their CDMA network.

Nexus 5 is confirmed not to come with verizon, Google's VP of communication already announced this
They said they'll have "future partnership with Verizon in products for 2014"

I'm waitin for Project Ara before I upgrade anything. Didn't think there was any real chance for a phoneblocks type thing until Google got behind it. With Google involved I can see it happening soon. The first round of phones may not be perfect, but I can see getting one an iteration or two after the first and not needing to upgrade for a long time.

this will never be more than a niche market especially here in the US where phone contracts and subsidized phones run the wireless market

I really want the nexus 5. Tired of iPhone. But I don't like contract either so this will probably be my last contract. The phone looks absolutely amazing. If you want/need a quad core and a 1080P display, then go ahead and buy it lol. It looks sexy.

Usually you can pay a penalty to break it. Then go buy whatever phone you want. Wait, are you on AT&T or T-Mobile? You can just remove the SIM from your iPhone and pop it into the Nexus.

Usually those contract's penalties lessen the closer you get to renewal date, too.

When my contract ends I'll unlock this phone with AT&T and then sell it in Brazil. Reason; I can sell it for $400 and buy the 32GB model. Either that or sell the phone and buy a Gon NS 87…

It really does. I'm prolly gonna change back to my Nexus sooner or later. Really can't stand the screen size on my iPhone. Just need to format the Nexus 4 before I'll use it, want a clean start.
