Ergodox Next Availability?
« on: Fri, 15 November 2013, 21:35:37 »
I was thinking that it would be greatly beneficial to my fingers' health if I managed to get an Ergodox, but as far as I remember, there haven't been any recent buys on Massdrop. Does anyone have any word or idea on when they might be back in store with parts?
Thanks!

I saw the $250 Dox with Clears up recently, but I was thinking of having a tp signature work, haha.
What about massdrop buys, though?

as far as I know, the last round had just started shipping out. Depending on whether Massdrop is switching suppliers (apparently they had some issues with theirs during the last round which caused a long delay), and how long they take to do it, vs the demand for a next round, you could be looking at anything between 1-2 months until the next round starts, another 2 weeks for the buy to end once it starts, and anything from 4-8 weeks till you get your kit.

The above is simply a general estimate of the timeline from my past experiences buying from massdrop, so take it with a pinch of salt.

Thanks for the answer. Actually this is quite helpful, I wasn't sure of the status of the last order. I'm going to take a while to get the money anyways, so that time frame seems about perfect. Thanks, Larken.

For the current round, the unassembled kits started shipping out and people have started receiving them. They're still waiting on the partially assembled and fully assembled boards. No official word on when the next round will start, but from what I can see on massdrop's site there are a lot of people requesting another round.

since there was an option for electronics soldered that was WAY cheaper than electronics and switches soldered, they most likely have a different process for switch soldering.

TBH if they had the diodes on the pcb and that's it, I'd gladly solder up the rest at my usual rate. Once the diodes are taken care of, it's pretty quick going from there.

You can get everything but the case pretty easily. Between mechanicalkeyboards.com and Digikey you could pick up the PCBs, switches and board components for ~$125. A local shop may be able to cut an acrylic case. I've been unsuccessful finding anyone that sells them online for a reasonable price.
