« on: Tue, 19 November 2013, 18:32:47 »
Did anyone get on the beta this weekend?

I just received an invite. I'm installing it now (Zenifax Online? wtf is that lol).

Beta starts on Friday.. who wants to play with me?

Also  I didn't read the NDA.. I should go read that lol

Edit: They say

My download speed for the game is 3.64 mB/s.
What is that? millibytes per second?

I have several friends (running beastly PCs) who got invited to the last beta weekend, as well as this one. I applied on my Macbook and my desktop PC, haven't been invited yet.

That doesn't mean anything. They have to send out to a variety of specs to test things.

TES Online is such a tricky ****.

Better a monthly subscription than a F2P because we all know how well F2P ends up working out...

I think the main difference between F2P and monthly is the user base it attracts..

F2p means way more younger kids.. and they're nuts..

Eh, original GW didn't have a monthly fee, and that was neat. GW2 is also doing well despite more monetization than the first game, but the reason I quit has little to do with that.

Although I still refuse to play games that require monthly subscriptions, because I want to be able to play whenever I feel like playing. I don't want to get caught in the "I paid for a month of playtime so I'd better get the most out of it" and eventually "I can't quit now because I've invested so much cash into this" mentalities.

Still, I can see the appeal, since the fee keeps a lot of the kiddies out, resulting in chat/community that's at least somewhat mature. The upfront fee of GW and GW2 also alleviates it somewhat, but not as much as a monthly fee.

Historically speaking, regarding MMO's, the subless games lacked heavily in content and updates following their initial game sale. Monthly subs are fine if it will encourage cool updates to the game.

The trend now is to hype the **** out of a game pre-release, beta, speculation, "I can't wait for this game to come out it will be so cool". Then the game comes out, everyone buys it and 3 weeks later it's donkey crap.

p2w is the same as monthly no?

unless our time has 0 value..

I mean.. I've stopped playing mmo hardcore since my RO addiction really took a toll on my health.. I got fat..

Ultimately what I got out of the gaming-drug was a sense of progress and accomplishment...

Now.. If one could make money faster in real life, and just pay for the accomplishments rather than sinking the extra-hours into it...  it seems more efficient..

And at the end of the day.. the final-experience is about equally satisfying..   NOT completely the same, but close.. enough such that I feel i get a better payoff given the TIME i put in.

And also still in Open Beta, so too early to see if power creep turns it into a mostly P2W game down the line. The other downside of the F2P is already showing though; the General Chat is pretty awful.

wtf are you doing in the general chat

You don't make friends there, you get info. If you want to talk to your friends, use Skype or /w.

The sad thing is you barely even get info in general chats in games nowadays. The people who frequent most MMOs these days have devolved into trolls and whiny children.

Some people even evolved (without the d) into someone with a trolls and whiny dip****s, an actual personality. But I just checked the general chat for some info about the new warframes and stuff, and got called a ***got and a noob.

That's the worst I've seen in there for a long time in general chat, worse than adnauseum's super off-topic derailing troll bull****.

I haven't checked my other email account in awhile and just saw my key. If anyone is interested in it, PM me and it's all yours. I know it's pretty late in the weekend, but hopefully it'll get some use :thumb:

TES Online is such a tricky ****.

"Hey, look at this sweet universe we made"

"Oh, cool! What are you going to do with it?"

"We are going to create lots of awesome open world games set in different parts of it!"

"FANTASTIC!"

"Yeah, and now we're putting them all together in one epic online experience!"

"HOLY **** I'M SO EXCITED!"

"yeah but you'll need to pay 15 dollars every month forever if you want it"

"**** you you're not getting ****"

"but it'll be gr8 tho"

"nghghgnghhhhghghhh ;-;"

Better a monthly subscription than a F2P because we all know how well F2P ends up working out...

I think the main difference between F2P and monthly is the user base it attracts..

F2p means way more younger kids.. and they're nuts..

Not to mention more often than not, F2P inevitably becomes P2W.

p2w is the same as monthly no?

unless our time has 0 value..

Well, if you get a decent job, you can get the sense of progress and accomplishment from the JOB and GET PAID FOR IT. How epic is that!?

Decent jobs are bloody hard to find, though. Particularly one which has a decent manager.

I'm interested in the Elder Scrolls MMO, but currently SWtOR is my drug of choice, can't afford two and I'm quite invested in SWtOR (and I don't want to switch to F2P in SWtOR).
Buying more keycaps,
it really hacks my wallet,
but I must have them.

Probably the worst beta I've played and its supposed to be like a mid beta too.

Gah, that is upsetting to hear(read!). ESO has been one of my go-to last-hopes for gaming. (morrowind was one of my first real pc games, aside from stuff like doom and quake many years prior... i never played oblivion or skyrim, due to lacking multiplayer, but they seem to have done very well, so ESO had me excited... and i have signed up for beta, but either no invite or lost in spam)

I jumped on the bf4-for-$20 bandwagon yesterday, and so far i'm just not impressed. I think the graphics are good, but... the entire thing feels so flashy and contrived. I might even have a moral objection to glorification of combat, after having played Spec Ops: The Line. I think that game might have given me PTSD.

Maybe Archeage will be good (i can't help but heavily scrutinize and remain skeptical when viewing their website; it looks like it SHOULD BE awesome... but we've been down these roads before.).

I'm getting really fed up with all the game companies employing "smash'n'grab" tactics to get our money in exchange for ill-conceived and/or half-assed games.

I wish i could go back to the feelings i got from Anarchy Online and Age of Conan... back when gaming felt like it "meant something," and was still fun.

Haha, AO was such crap.  Every aspect of it was broken.  I do have fond memories of it though.  Mostly the weird things in the game like "The Curator" or finding a gun that shoots green toxic something or other, or finding out that the "agent" class just plain sucks compared to the others.
