here's the thing.

they aren't saving a buck. they are spending money on stuff simply because it's "cheap". they are buying stuff they don't need because it's cheap. "i gotta buy this because it's 400 dollars off!" but you just spent 600..

Ironically, the "savings" are for the most part an illusion.. But, try explaining that to your typical walmart shopper. =P

I went to a few stores and found no good deals.   Most of the TVs I saw with "Black Friday" prices were junky no-name CCFL-backlit TVs with MSRPs of brand-name LED-backlit TVs.  Most people don't know the difference and just as many would only judge its value based on what Walmart says the MSRP is.

it's supposed to be a "FUN" thing... it's not really about the prices.

The first and last time I really did a black Friday sale was about 10 years ago when I was still in college.  I was at Fry's Electronics and some dbag decided to take some hot ticket item out of my cart while I was trying to push it through the crowd.  I threatening to beat him into a coma, not because of the item but for the blatant spit in my face type of disrespect.  He was some geeky dude that looked like he should work at geek squad, and probably wasn't ready to fight but didn't want to give up the item, so he called two of his friends to try and get his back.  I had about twenty friends that loved to fight, all nearby, who came right away.  I made it clear that heads would get stomped in if the item wasn't returned, and he put it back and apologized profusely.  I decided that too many desperate idiots go to these sales, my tolerance for *******s is pretty much zero, and I'm a very violent person, so it would be in my best interest to stay away from these events if I want to avoid prison time.  I personally don't think there is any fun in these sales, just a gathering of a bunch of people motivated by greed, who think they can put aside any respect for other human beings just to get a better price on crap they don't even need.

I'm a very violent person.
that's ok, just don't leave witnesses.
(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

LOL that's kind of difficult when you are surrounded by so many people you can barely walk through them, along with video surveillance.  It's crazy how many people show up to these sales.

I went last night with my gf and younger brother because they wanted to go...It was as pitiful, disgusting, and disappointing as I thought it would be. Just imagine: if people are behaving like degenerates for some good deals on non-essentials, what will they do when a real disaster happens? Spoiler: Think Katrina x100

We don't have that kind of thing in Australia.

WHen you guys go to these events, do you like pretend it's a zombie apocalypse and that you are the only person still alive and ... unaltered, and then try to make your way through the onslaught of zombies to reach your goal?

According to some friends a few local stores had to close because people were getting things and just making a run for their vehicles.
