Actually Scary movies..
« on: Sat, 14 December 2013, 09:30:34 »
For me it was Leprechaun 1 and 2

For months I ran when I had to take out the trash, because I thought an evil Leprechaun was gonna get me...

The movie and its sequel also solidified my fear of people with "grinch-like" grins..

Well to me it's not necessarily the movies, but rather creepypasta. I don't what it is, I can't ever stop reading those. Which is kind of weird, that if I get paranoid I will continue to read them.
It's just that there are some pretty amazing stories.

But in term of movies; it would have to Paranormal activity.

For me it would also be the Paranormal Activity series. I thought 4 was pretty creepy but the ending was a major let down.

I don't find horror movies scary. Something like The Cove is more "scary" to me. Although it's more like a lingering, deep-rooted, existential fear rather than a ghost-train, childlike scare people get from horror movies, which is something I haven't really felt since I was a little kid.

I remember the movie "The Fog". This was when I was 8 years old. Thanks to that movie I wasn't able to sleep comfortably. Is what made it worse, was that they all go on boats, and so did I at that time. When we would go off shore I remember always looking out at the sea to make sure there wasn't a fog. Lol.

The only one so far pretty much is The Conjuring but only because its a true story. Dont think of it as a hollywood movie think about if you lived there.

It's funny that you started this post. I just started getting back into watching horror movies.

I watched all 9 Hellraiser movies.

They are not "scary" but they fit the horror genre well.

After watching the first 3, I was kinda scared to be in the dark the next night. I felt like hooks were going to come out of the walls and rip my skin off.

I some how doubt that it was based of a true story... I think they only say that so that is scares you. Which almost all the time it really does work.
That being said, I don't think someone can get possessed and become like that.

Hellraiser is S-M to the max.. it really confused me when I was younger..

The pain is pleasure, enjoyment in suffering... I didn't understand that at all until I grew up..

I also didn't know there were 9 movies..

I got some catching up to do.. I only saw 1-3

Many of these horror flix are "loosely" based.. so someone "did" die, but probably not so fantastically..

Nowadays they are all "based on a true story or happenings". I found REC 1 and 2 extremely scary. The way the movie was shot made me feel really uncomfortable. Every "handheld" movie after that was just a joke.

Amityville Horror.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Seen a lot of horror movies, and really can't think of one that's actually scary. Most of the ones people label as scary either winds up being cheesy, turn into an action flick, or a gorefest. I could name you a couple games though  ;)

edit: Really trying to think, looking over my DVDs. I can only think of two that have genuinely frightening moments, which are Event Horizon and Jacob's Ladder. Sometimes it's hard for people to distinguish between whats scary and whats shocking.

viy scared the **** out of me.
(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.
