The problem here is you've allowed her to take control of situations by throwing tantrums. I bet when she does this, you cower and try to console and appease her. Whereas when she first tried doing these things, you should've checked her. Raise your voice and be assertive because you're not in the wrong. You're right, act like it.

Yah this is probably the best advice actually. Just tell her to can it.

Elrick,

Are you saying that if someone approached your hhkb with glistening hands you would gladly oblige?

If she had glistening hands as you put it, might as well get her to stroke something phallic  :thumb: .  Since your gf likes to eat pizza then the flavour should be alright for her as she swallows, on one huge hard piece.

Besides, hasn't anyone heard of "WET ONES" hand wipes here?  The professionals all use it, hence why not get a few packs around your home.

:smack head:

Just when I agreed with you Elrick a few posts above, now I have to agree with you even more!! :thumb:

well we don't know the full story of the relationship but.. all signs point to maybe.

one thing is keeping your SO happy.. another is letting them act like a child over petty things.

There is no magic bullet for virtually anything to do with relationships. How anyone deals with their situation is wholly up to themselves. I am going for a more neutral approach rather than to defend your girlfriend or to agree with you that she should have washed her hands before playing with your keyboard.

In reality, washing hands is as trivial as say, going to shower or brushing teeth. It takes only matter of minutes. People come from all sorts of different backgrounds, whether it would be taking shoes off before entering a house or to not eat with your left hand. A partner whom is more open is flexible on those aspects can surely understand and adhere to certain rituals/beliefs/etc.

On the other hand, going into argument over one's hygiene and/or a newly acquired keyboard in hindsight tells your partner the sort of character you are. Sure you may assert dominance but at the same time when sending out wrong messages it ensues a bitter and hard argument at first over simple misunderstanding that was boiled over and that a compromise could have been made along the lines where possible.

For now I shall put away the suggestions treating partners or whatever like a dog. Maybe some people don't understand there is a deeper meaning behind certain motives. It is interesting to note that from an "average Joe's" point of view when observing pack of dogs or wolves behaviour for instance, humans are hardly much different from the rest of the animal kingdom (notably when it comes to land based apex predators).

My understanding is that if either party sees the relationship as a struggle for dominance/power, then the union would always be on edge..

"Seriously it's brand new and your fingers are greasy"
I think that is perfectly reasonable to ask someone to wash their hands after eating pizza with their hands before touching anything.
It is not just about keyboards. I wouldn't want greasy pizza-fingerprints on anything in my house, furniture, kitchen appliances, door handles, etc.

^ This!

My understanding is that if either party sees the relationship as a struggle for dominance/power, then the union would always be on edge..

But isn't a relationship a continuous struggle for dominance/power and most guys (with non devote girls) simply give up at some point?

Maybe it was the tone in which you asked her to wash her hands.

I've gotten in trouble with my girl for my tone. I wish she would just suck it up and accept the fact that that's just how I talk.

But I can't, because she's just a sensitive person. And I love her and want to make her happy, so I try to ease up the tone as much as I can.

Relationships are about compromises (I think), and I hope you guys settled it after two hours of fighting.

Usually it's all sorted horizontally in about 30 minutes.  Maybe longer if I emptied myself before getting physical with her, it always works when they feel like they're the most important thing in the world (try never to break that illusion).

Oh boy, this was a fun read. Thanks for your input guys, however I feel some people are digging to deeply towards an argument. My relationship is fine, this was just a little tiff that happens in any long term relationship. I was hoping some people would post some stories of similar situations or struggles. Sitting down with her right now watching the breaking bad marathon (her favorite show)...after I cleaned and tucked in my keyboard for bed of course  ;)

But wet wipes are like a shower for your face!

When you need them, you'll know.

Also you sound like a (w)ussy worrying about the chemicals in them, just man up. I've used them for years, nothing wrong with me, well actually there probably is, but its unrelated.

What, you lot are crying about using Wet Wipes.....unbelievable.  Have to use turps and sometimes delve into clogged diesel fuel pumps, grease bearings and horrid hydraulic maintenance and you lot are worried about getting your hands dirty with a cleaning product?

What the hell has happened to the male generation around here now, it sounds like some kind of mummies boys hang out, where deep discussions on what hand lotion to use that won't leave a stain on their cuticles.

Damn, you better beat off all the girls that want some of that action....... for christ sake  8) .  Someone has already said it clearly -  time to finally man up before it's too late.

I think i'd prefer it if they were paid off to be honest. England always has the downhill attitude, if we lose 1 we get depressed :( Which is why we collapse so much. But I really don't know whats going on, I suppose we had to let you win 1 :) Was getting abit unfair!

I've been trying to understand your stance on the part of Australia you live in.  From what I've read, being a descendant is actually a somewhat "cool" quirky heritage thing to boast.  Whereas there's almost not a post here where you don't try to mention your dreary origins.

Because it's got nothing to do with you or anyone else here.  This place isn't facebook hence I don't try to publish all my life here or anywhere else for that matter.

Never leave evidence for anyone wanting to build a case against you, RULE Number ONE.  If you want to know someone personally and know their private details I think you're in the wrong forum buddy.

Besides I'm proud of my heritage hence the listing of such fine accomplishments  :thumb: .

I only use this place to waste some time between shifts that is all.

It's similar to asking people to take their shoes off when they enter your house
...so you get this:

what do you do when people have to go into houses during snowy winter days?  you just leave dirty wet footprints all over the house till you go to sleep?

or do you actually wear your shoes to bed as well?

i'm a bear. i don't wear any shoes.
(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

Doesn't this just depend on where you live and the type of flooring you have?
Of course you're going to ask somebody to take off his/her shoes if it's raining outside and it's going to leave a mark in your carpet ... unless you want to wear those plastic covering slip on things.

Who doesn't wash their hands after pizza though? That's just nasty.

^ This.

It's common sense to wash your hands after eating pizza before you touch ANYTHING.

or she lives in the old world and eats pizza with a knife and a fork.

I eat almost everything using utensils, but pizza is one of those foods meant to be eaten with your hands, at least when at home.  It's like eating slices of white bread with a knife and fork: does not look right.  But I can see that in cultures where pizza is not a common food, there could be some temptation to use utensils.

Spoons and forks cause overbites. If you grow up eating with your hands, apparently your top and bottom teeth will actually match instead of overlapping.

It's similar to asking people to take their shoes off when they enter your house
...so you get this:

Show Image

what do you do when people have to go into houses during snowy winter days?  you just leave dirty wet footprints all over the house till you go to sleep?

or do you actually wear your shoes to bed as well?

Doesn't this just depend on where you live and the type of flooring you have?
Of course you're going to ask somebody to take off his/her shoes if it's raining outside and it's going to leave a mark in your carpet ... unless you want to wear those plastic covering slip on things.

i jjst don't see the benefit of having pieces of dirt constantly on your floor.  especually since the solution takes almost no effort.  is this like a warm-weather-year-round-place habit? or european?  cause i'm pretty sure every asian country just takes their shoes off by habit.

It's california ... so pretty much yes  :p warm weather all around.
So usually here, most people here just have a shoe rack near the front door and everybody takes off their shoe when they enter.
I do know a few people with stone-like flooring that wear shoes around their house all the time.

I can't stand wearing shoes around the house and cringe at those who do. Also I feel the same way about walking barefoot around the house, just can't get into it. Maybe I don't like feet but it grosses me out seeing bare feet sunk into the carpet. I always wear socks, and keep a pair next to the shower to put on right when I get out. I don't like things sticking to my feet , I have dogs and their hair gets everywhere dispite how hard I clean. Nothing is worse than looking at my feet and seeing random hairs stuck between my toes.

Ha ha.. I can't help but laugh seeing how this thread derailed. It would be at least be in the same soirit of the topic if we typed with our feet! :)

So I now shipped all my stuff to work to avoid any questions from the significant other but this type of undercover activities made me feel dirty and dishonest and is a recipe for a disastrous relationship. What can I do?
