Occasionally double-pressing space-bar with MX Browns
« on: Sat, 28 December 2013, 04:22:53 »
Hey guys,

So I just received my Cherry MX Brown board today, and I'm noticing that pressing on the space bar is sometimes being registered as two presses, resulting in double spaces when I type.

Is this just an issue with getting used to the MX  (<--- It just happened there) Brown switch, or do I have a defective product? It seems to happen more when I don't think about it, and less when I'm conscious about it... but I don't really want to be conscious about typing while I type. =/

I do remember owning a Cherry MX Brown switch board before (the CM Storm Trigger), and I don't really remember having this issue before.

I have so many browns in my collection but never had this kind of error before. You should RMA it if possible.

Anyone else? Since there aren't that many replies, I'm starting to assume this isn't a problem many people have come across... I should  (<-- it did it again) note I did do tp4tissue's test, though, and I didn't run into any problems, yet, I still get the double-spacing issue while I'm normally typing.

I just popped out the keys for the space-bar, and some other alpha keys, and I'm noticing the feel of the switch for space is a little different than the rest, as well. Maybe the switch is activating earlier than the tactility point? It seems there is something different. But I'm not sure if it's just me imagining things, or if it's a real, tangible difference...

well if it's only that one switch.. it'd be quite easy to fix..

Could be a defective switch.

Or it could be an improperly seated space bar.  Try carefully removing it, then replacing it.

You didn't say which board you have, or whether it is Cherry or Costar stabilisers.

If the former, make sure the space bar is straight and properly seated.  If the latter, make sure the stabiliser inserts are inserted the right way around and are not loose.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Wouldn't it be easier to just return it? I'm assuming there would be soldering involved, and I have no experience with that...

Yeap, it's a board with Cherry stabilizers. I've popped up the key a couple of times, and re-seated it properly, but I'm still occasionally getting the issue.

I have had numerous boards with Brown switches and never had that problem. RMA if possible!

What board is it? If its PCB mounted it can be replaced easily
