A request for a video - clipping the cherry stabilisers
« on: Sun, 02 February 2014, 04:26:27 »
As stated above, i would really like to call out to this community and ask someone to do a FPVideo of the WHOLE process, not just the clipping (meaning dismantling the keyboard and then proceed.)
I am sure many people, including myself, would be very happy to see it.

So you mean disassembly and then clipping and then putting them back in? Disassembly differs for each keyboard. Check my modding guide in my sig, it should help you. I can still do video too if really necessary.

That's exactly what i meant. I am planning to buy a leopold FC700R with reds. But not if u won't be able to clip the stabs. I hate the mushy cherry stabs -.-
If it wouldn't be too much to ask of you, yes, please do make a video :thumb:

It's too dark now but I can make one tomorrow, but I have neither a FC700R nor plate mounted stabilizers, however I think plate mounted Cherry stabs aren't as bad as PCB mounted ones.

For plate mount you need to remove the switch, then remove the stabiliser and then clip. I will see if I can make a video.. it's dark though :/

if you h8 the cherry stabs... then WHY are you buying a keyboard that comes with cherry stabs?

the clipping helps, but to really get that "costar" stab feel, you also have to remove material from the sides of the stabilizer inserts.

Yeah litster made one for clipping the stabilizers. But you're going to need to specify if there's a particular board you want to see opened up.

Edit: I see you want to see this for a Leopold FC700R. I haven't modified a Leopold so I can't help in that department :)

Once you open it up, then you'll know where to cut.

Good luck!

Yes, i know. I would get a filco, the problem is that i want a white keyboard, and the FC700R comes in a better white than the beige filco. That would be the only reason. That + it's easier to change caps on cherry stabs.

It's too bad the Filco's didn't come in a pure white.

Very dark video.. my camera isn't good at video. It should be clear enough though. I haven't shown clipping the stabiliser stems - refer to litster's video for that.

First half shows the process for PCB mount Cherry stabs, second half shows plate mount.
