What do you eat? The thread about things you eat.
« on: Tue, 22 April 2014, 10:46:35 »
Do you hate ramen, and browsing a thread filled with images and descriptions of ramen makes you want to vomit?

Post here what you like to eat. Maybe you are in a different region or country, and the things you eat might be of interest to others. That's what this thread is for.

I like peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

Medium rare steak and homemade chips (the Americans here would call them fries I guess) is my favourite meal!

Dammit, I just ate and now I'm hungry again...

x2 on the steak. It tastes better if you make it yourself, IMO...

Close runner-up would have to be chicken-broccoli alfredo, also homemade. Probably one of the only things I can cook that isn't on the grill.

Reminds me of something I used to make. I would take hashbrowns, cook them in a pan, then throw in a bunch of cheese and bacon, and then put a ton of eggs on top of that. It was like a casserole but all made stove top in a pan. I need to make that again, I haven't in years.

That reminds me of this stuff my stepdad makes; he calls it kielbasa hash. It's essentially potatoes, kielbasa, onions, green peppers, and assorted spices, sauteed in a single pan to let the potatoes soak up all the other flavors. It's quite good...

Photekq, I can't resist asking this, but do you actually know anybody in UK who likes Bovril and Vegemite? Or your infamous UK standard boiled-till-rotten cabbage?

I personally call them Imperialist Foods. The reasoning being, they suck so bad, it puts people in a bad mood and makes them invade and conquer the rest of the world just so they can grab the colonized people's foods.
Most of the modding can be done on your own once you break through the psychological barriers.

It's not Vegemite in the UK. It's Marmite. I love it having a little bit of it on toast with butter.

Bovril.. I've never tried it, but my mum has it sometimes.

Boiled-till-rotten cabbage.. Haven't heard that before.

I'm a big fan of "loco moco" - I try it if they have it on the menu,  anywhere I go.

The best I have ever had was at a little restaurant on the big island in Waimea called Hawaiian Style Cafe.

These are pretty awesome as snack foods go:

It is hard to imagine a candidate more unworthy to serve as president of the United States than Donald Trump. He has proved himself morally unfit for an office that asks its occupant to put the good of the nation above self-interest. He has proved himself temperamentally unfit for a role that requires the very qualities — wisdom, honesty, empathy, courage, restraint, humility, discipline — that he most lacks.
Those disqualifying characteristics are compounded by everything else that limits his ability to fulfill the duties of the president: his many criminal charges, his advancing age, his fundamental lack of interest in policy and his increasingly bizarre cast of associates.

okay, let's start with korean dumplings, tofu skin and vegetables for Lent.

(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

If you come to visit me I will buy you some pho. And mmm real ramen. I will post some food pics from my HK trip later. I think of the 800+ pics I took, 60% were of food? Yeah, that's how I do.

I should post pictures of my ice cream stashes too. Think they were on my old phone though :(.

For me there has always been some food that I consider breakfast food, and food that I don't consider breakfast food. For breakfast, I eat porridge, cereal (most often a müsli blend) with yoghurt or milk, or sandwiches, often with fruit on the side.
Never anything that has been cooked, with the only exceptions being toasted bread or boiled porridge.

I should also say that I'm a vegetarian, but I eat eggs and dairy. Eggs, beans, rice, cooked veggies, etc. are only for lunch or dinner.

Then wth is Marmite made of?
Marmite is made from the spent yeast left over from brewing beer, and then there is lots of salt.
If you didn't grow up with it, you will probably hate it. I have tried it once - never again!

I wish I could get some pho. Never had it. I need to go to Vietnam now. FML.
come here and I'll take around trying hundreds types of pho :))

or come to denver. we have a nice big population of Vietnamese folks here and they all decided to open restaurants. it is really awesome.  people here are obsessed with pho and they all pronounce it wrong.  i know how to say it right.  for the nguyen!

marmite tastes like hatred and oppression.

I had a pickled beef tongue sandwich, side of katsu, and sour stout beer (tart of darkness) for dinner. It was amazing. I've never had tongue before but it turned out tasting like the most tender roast beef ever.

meet my today's lunch, the glorious Lasagna Pietroburghese:

62189-0
