Title. Was it discontinued and if so, why? Was it because of the blue leds?

I don't think it's d/c. According to Max Kb's website, just not in stock in blue led. However, it is available in red led.

There is a drop on massdrop that has the blackbird MX brown with blue led:

Ships from AU, email them and work something out. The mechKB guys post at /r/mechanicalkeyboards all the time. AFAIK they're legit.

Unfortunately, the massdrop only does the red backlight for the brown switch, while it has the red and blue for the blue switch.
