[Advice] 1st mech board
« on: Mon, 23 June 2014, 18:24:51 »
Im thinking about buying my 1st mechanical keyboard, could you guys please give me some recommendations?

My price range is around 120-130$ max.
Brown switch
with adjustable backlightning
full size or at least compact size (like CM Storm TK)

So im thinking abt Ducky zero shine, CM Storm TK/Ultimate, TTesport Poisedon.

Which one is better? Is there other alternatives?

And I live in VietNam but have lot of business trips to Malaysia. if someone know where I could buy/try mech board in those places, please enlighten me. shipping from US/China to Vietnam could cost as much as half a board :(

+1 for Ducky Zero Shine, although you can only get blue of orange backlighting.

if you can spend a little more, a Ducky Shine 3 will give you a detachable cable, more choices for backlight colour, and more lighting modes.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

+1 for the Shine 3. If your budget is really firm, I saw the Ducky Shine 2 going for $130 brand new. I would still take a Shine 2 over a Zero.

Personally I'd go with the Ducky Zero Shine. The QF TK didn't really feel as solid as my Shine 3 / G2Pro. No clue about the Poseidon.

Ducky Zero shine < Ducky Shine 3

You won't get your description other than with Ducky imo (as far as i know, maybe you may find some other boards as well)

If you want to have a greater range of boards fitting your needs, consider dropping the backlite. While i know backlighting is nice, i am not a fan myself of backlite keys for the sole reasons you will get ABS most of the time (and i am a burning defendant of PBT keycaps) and once you start typing fast, you won't be checking your board while typing.

Honestly i don't think you should limit your choice to backlite options only. But of course you do what you want!

I don't know whether the Poseidon is made any more.
Only the Poseidon Z ( which does not use Cherry switches ).

Skip the Poseidon, the newest version (Z) does not use cherry switches and the older one has junky stabs (I returned mine)

Also look into picking up a Blackbird, it comes with WAY nicer keycaps than the ducky.

http://www.amazon.com/Max-Keyboard-Blackbird-Tenkeyless-Mechanical/dp/B00GRISO34/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1403712339&sr=8-2&keywords=blackbird+keyboard

I have seen them as low as $135 but not sure how the shipping would be for you. you might not miss the 10key as much as you think and you can always add one later if you do. Otherwise get the ducky I guess but I don't think it will be as nice...

You could also look at a Rosewill RK-9100.
