Any anti-reflective (matte) screen laptops under $600
« on: Mon, 30 June 2014, 14:05:27 »
Wonder if there are still any anti-reflective (matte) screen laptops for sale under $600. Around 2010 there were still quite a few. Great for working outside, under the sun for example.

Especially the Samsung N150 had an excellent screen. Forgot the name of screen manufacturer. But the manufacturer stopped making those screens for consumers and ended up only working military.

most lenovos are matte..

the problem today is they've redone their bios to lock out 3rd party batteries on many new models..

WHICH MEAN, you have to factor in cost of $150 replacement batteries..  Those greedy bastards

Lenovo's have a great keyboard for a laptop indeed. Would be my first choice laptop brand.

their new island style is also pretty good..  WAY better than macbooks imho..

I really h8 the whole battery thing though...  that's completely a **** move, something you'd expect from Apple...

and,  on principle.. I will no longer buy anymore Lenovos..   I shall cherish my x200 and x220 till the end of time..

oh... DO NOT update their bioses to the latest version, it's a trap.. they can LOCK 3rd party batteries out...

also DO NOT install lenovo battery manager, guess what,, LOCK BATTERY

Holy Crap, didn't know it would be like this sh*tty.. Have reconsider twice now before owning a new Lenovo.
Yeah, heard some great things about the new island style kb. Do you think it's better than the old one? Some say, the new one is slightly more tactile and sound better..

It's something I would expect from lenovo. They are pretty much the worst brand to deal with on a professional basis. They have consistently the worst vendor reps, and the most issues with warranty (we still have about 400 that they need to fix, out of 600 they screwed up). Their computers make the least sense internally, and are an unnecessary PITA to repair. the list goes on.

You can do what I did and get an HP 9470M used for $480, then upgrade the panel to the 1600*900 (aka the decent one) in matte for ~$60

I also primarily use a HP laptop as desktop computer (with monitor and kb) and a Dell for laptop use. Find the HP technically really good, silent fan etc. Was going to replace the Dell laptop for a Lenovo for a better kb. But it seems HP still rules :p Thanks for advice. How about, any new HP laptops with matte screen?

the old one didn't make much sound, but the new island is noticeably more 'tactile" if you're into that..
