Found my old key.  I had written it down somewhere.  Slowly installing drivers and software and getting it back to normal.  I forgot how long and annoying it can be.

Awesome.  Glad you got it running.

Me too.  Now just remembering what all I had installed and getting it set up the way I like it again.  Such a pain.

I ended up going with the Samsung 850 Pro 256GB.  It was hard to part with the money, but the 10 year warranty is reassuring.

If anyone is interested there is a nice slipstreaming program that can throw all the windows 7 updates into an iso, effectively giving you an "SP2" disk. Nothing better than a fresh install with only 1 update available instead of 100 and lots of restarts.  http://forums.mydigitallife.info/threads/45005-Simplix-Pack-to-update-Live-Win7-System-Integrate-hotfixes-into-Win7-distribution

I heard Ivan mention Daz, so I though I should throw this out there. If you have a compatible OEM motherboard (almost any laptop, and some desktops), then you can use OEM activation. Microsoft gives OEM's special keys they can use to activate any number of computers. It's 100% valid, and can't be revoked or real people will lose there access. I'm not positive on the legality of it but you can google it. (mods - you can remove this paragraph if it violates any TOS).

I've had good luck with the Samsung 840 Pro's, meaning no failures in almost 2 years.  In dunno about the 850's, but I would think they're gonna be good too.  And also I've have very good luck/ performance from a Crucial M4 256MB, which has taken a beating.  Literally.  I think Crucial is making M500 and M550 now, which get good reviews, AFAIK.  And some rate them higher than the mighty Samsungs.  But you probably did the right thing with buying a Samsung Pro SSD.

One thing I do know however, is that OCZ is gaddam terribad.  There is a reason that OCZ went out of business.   The reason is they suck big balls.   Should be called OWSZB (Oh We Suck Zee Balls).  W/E.  OCZ went bankrupt and Toshiba bought out the scraps of what was left of the intellectual property and whatever brain-dead engineering and mfg'ing guys they had left from the bargain bin of bankruptcy.  I won't ever buy anything from OCZ. Got burned too many times by those @ss clowns in San Jose.  OCZ if you read this, you know you suck.

On the other hand Toshiba makes stellar SSD... though 90% of the time they are OEM for other brands like Mushkin, Sandisk... their own branded ones are also very good but are not seen in retail channels as often. The Toshiba made models with toggle nand especially. Perhaps OCZ will become a good choice with Toshiba running it.

AMD is throwing its hands in the pot with a SSD offering soon. Only time will tell if it is worth anything

AMD SSD will also be OEM by Toshiba so it's nothing interesting.

I love AMD, but I highly doubt it.  Just look at their RAM.  It's just rebadged Patriot RAM.

Mine wasn't an Evo.  I had a Mushkin Enhanced Chronos and, before that, an OCZ Vertex 2.
