dust cover for an IBM Space Saver Keyboard?
« on: Wed, 24 September 2014, 08:58:35 »
Hi.
Anyone knows where to get a vinyl dust cover to fit nicely on the size of a IBM Space Saver Keyboard? . Dimensions 16' X 7' x 2'
Everything I find is for the regular size keyboards, no luck yet finding a midget size one :)
If anyone is has any extra and is interested to sell..... point right my way.

Normally in ebay. They tend to come in sets of 2 or 3 pieces for monitors, CPU, and keyboard. there are quire few of this in action right now.
Sometimes you can find the keyboard cover alone like in the link below.

I see, that explains it. Thanks for letting me know.

You know, I actually tried and cut a spare one to the size, saw it by hand and couldn't get a straight line. Used the sawing machine and,...well what a mess. I ended up with a smaller frankenstein version of the original. I knew I wasn't talented with the needle...and I created a monster.
I am not looking for any particular vinyl material, just whatever fits nicely, that is semi-transparent and protects from dust (not even water protection is necessary)
...sounds like a plastic bag would do the trick :), but I am looking for something more shaped up like a keyboard cover.

I use the colored stretchy book covers sold at CVS and other places.   Works well enough for me and they're cheap and cheery

That's actually a genius idea. I should've bought some when they were on super sale for back to school @.@

Thanks for the videos, will test if first with my hair dryer this weekend :))
How are those colored stretchy book covers?. I am in Japan and I don't think they sells these here.

Anyone has any idea, if not vinyl,  what other solution is there as a cover for IBMs SSK?
I had a look at the hard plastic covers,....but not sure these fit well or that wont damage the shell be eroding it over time.

Couldn't you just use a flat piece of cardboard that's larger than the keyboard..  that will prevent the dust from settling directly the keyboard..  and is also much easier to remove and store on your desk..

whereas if you have a more 3D cover with depth, you need more space for it form your workspace when you use your keyboard.

I don't know,...I guess that the cardboard solution is fully functional, but not sure I want to cover the SSK with cardboard (even it it is well cut and done). I prefer a solution that likes more like either: A vintage vinyl flexible cover (old school) or a modern acrylic rigid cover,...hence my struggle to find it I suppose.
In the meantime I am using the big vinyl cover from one of my Model Ms that I have in storage.... but it is way to big.

I have my dust covers made by Digital Deck Covers. They take custom orders, have a decent database of existing measurements, and have a pretty quick turn around for custom orders. I've ordered 3 custom dust covers for my video game systems and the quality is decent and they do have vinyl covers as well. I opted for the double-sided quilted black nylon because it just looks pimp as ****.

I can upload some pics of what they made for me if you'd like.

BTW, noisyturtle any pictures you could share would be great.
I am wondering how your covers fit in considering the back elevation of the keyboard, I mean:
at the back due to the elevation the height is 2 inches, but on the front side it is the height it is only 1 inch,... so are your dust covers are perfectly box-squared or inclined towards the front just as the keyboard shell.

I have that issue with my Neo Geo because it's slanted, so there is space where it dips down. But the material is strong enough to stand on it's own and hold it's shape. It's not going to conform unless you ask them to cut it at an angle, which I neglected to do on my order. But they will work with you, I asked for a liftable flap in the back and they sent me a few pics of different ways they could make it and let me pick.

Maybe order a 101 cover from Unicomp and cut it down?
