Ebola
« on: Thu, 02 October 2014, 08:43:44 »
I am so annoyed at the current state of the media...

Everybody isn't going to die of ebola, stop making such a big ****ing deal about it!

If doctors suddenly discover the virus has mutated and can become airborne, then we have something to worry about. Until then, please media, just stop. I don't give two ****s about your ratings...

How can it not be a big deal! We are ALL GONG TO DIE!! (No seriously, eventually it is inevitable (except TP4 who will be uploaded to some old school government servers that have been hidden away in a bunker somewhere).

We know ebola is in texas and there are literally hundreds of keycap packages being sent from texas to all over the world. Will geekhack key cap group buys be the catalyst to take ebola global?? :o

Puts a whole new perspective on the question, 'Do you wash your keycaps before use?'

But seriously has no one else considered how global we all are here and the products/items we sell to each other are possible health hazards??

On the serious...

Ebola is very scary indeed.. ..

IFFFFF  it does become endemic in AFRICA...   this is a HUGE problem... because IDK if ya'll know this.. AFRICA is very big, and VERY fertile..

We'd be losing Tons of arable land, and Future workforce...

Notice.. The China-Rising right now will eventually become too expensive to sustain, their product will inevitably become too expensive..

India is Next

THEN comes the African Coast.. South Africa is especially important as a shipping hub..

Well, let's just say that if no more help is sent to Afrika, a LOT of them will die. I am not the type of guy that is trying to save the world or anything like that, but I have enough of a heart to know that not only spending some government money to help Afrika get rid of Ebola is a good thing to do in order to save a lof of lifes, but it's also a much more economic way to deal with this disease globally instead of having to take a ****load of preventive measures everywhere in the world in order to protect the rest of the world. In fact, if the world had spend a little billion as soon as the epidemic started, it would probably be done by now.

Now healtcare companies are probably seeing this treat as an economical blessing. But the media are right to sound an alarm. The sooner the population will want to get rid of Ebola, the sooner the money to get rid of it will be spent and the less it will cost us all.

Quote from: CDC.gov on Ebola transmission
When an infection does occur in humans, there are several ways the virus can be spread to others. These include:
• direct contact with the blood or body fluids (including but not limited to feces, saliva, urine, vomit and semen)
of a person who is sick with Ebola
• contact with objects (like needles and syringes) that have been contaminated with the blood or body fluids of
an infected person or with infected animals

Keywords there being direct contact. And since the infected people have since been isolated, there is practically zero chance of it spreading.

Sorry, I should have clarified: I am annoyed about the medias portrayal of how serious the U.S. "outbreak" is. The situation in West Africa is most certainly a sad and serious one, and I meant no offense.

The story I'm hearing is the guy pretty much knew he had ebola and came to the usa to get treatment (since it's been broadcast we can 'handle' it) and was initially turned away and sent home only to get sicker and it is too soon to tell if anyone else has already been infected.

I find it hard to believe they really isolated everyone since initial number of contacts was 18 and is now as high as 80.

That's the doctor's fault, not his.

I can easily blame that on the media, and here's my speculation:

The doctor didn't believe the patient when he came in believing he had ebola. He didn't believe him because he assumed the only reason the patient thought he had ebola was because it's been all over the media, and was being paranoid. Doctor sends patient home, turns out patient did in fact have ebola, now it's an "outbreak" because he has been in contact with numerous people. People who have since been isolated (there must be an echo in here...) and no longer pose a threat.

So truthfully, I blame the doctors AND the media for this...

If the virus mutates to selectively infect the idiots of the world, then I'd say yes.

It's unfortunate that viruses can't discriminate on that basis...

If it gets bad enough, the U.S. will lock it's borders and not let any air crafts into our airspace. It's only one guy in texas, plus 100s of others that were exposed. As long as they didn't touch his bodily fluids they should be alright. It's all blown out of proportion right now...
