Thinkpad IBM/Lenovo retro style

Are you guys a fan of the old school retro IBM style currently found in the Lenovo thinkpad line or do you prefer more modern designs/styles for your laptops?

x230 was a let down, got rid of it as soon as posssible..

I'm using a x230. It's trash! Waking up from hibernate can take as long as 5 minutes. That's really unacceptable when my MacBook Air takes milliseconds to wake up. Lenovo has totally destroyed the ThinkPad brand.

That's unpossible..

a macbook air is significantly less powerful than an x230..

so.. either you got software clutter,  OR your ram/ SSD is not configured properly.

idk what that means.. but the first thing people do these days is flash the unlock bios so they can upgrade the wifi card for cheaper than what lenovo charges you to do it.

the centrino 6300 intel card is still the go to for Wifi N.. 

the Killer N also works, but it's buggy..

The intel AC card works too, but it's not 3x3, only 2x2

The damn ThinkPad is company issue, so I am not surprise if there are a lot of software clutter. It's totally unacceptable P.O.S. for a modern laptop, seriously unproductive. Which is the reason I ended up bringing my own MacBook Air to work!

That sounds more like "hibernate" mode vs. "suspend" mode to me.

I am more familiar with the tablet versions than the laptop version, but the X220 and X230 are almost identical. Why was the 230 a letdown?

about the hibernate issue: You can put an SSD into an X230, there is space for either a normal size one or a small msata one, this will help significantly.

Also I recommend removing all the lenovo bloatware before use. I actually recommend just loading a fresh copy of windows whenever you get a PC to make sure it's fresh. I'd give that a shot.

Supports DDR3  1866mhz (this matters quite a bit on a laptop that uses integrated graphics shared memory)

9cell battery + Slice battery,  doubles the 9 cell essentially


I got the x230,  at the time, i only heard the rumor that ivy was gonna be double the battery life of sandy bridge..  back of my mind, I knew that's impossible,  but I thought well if they get me another 30%, I'll be ok..   WRONG,  maybe 10-20% more batterylife TOPS

Then there was the CPU with only + 5-15%, which amounts to almost nothing..

Then they went with island keyboard, while that's alrite, it's really a cost cutting move..

     - and it didn't have the BLUE  enter key..   that's really important for a thinkpad.. 



if you go out today, and bought the x230, and never use an x220,  it's probably fine..

But.  once you get an x220, you'll be like.. wow, no more steps backwards ...

it's really hard to do that.. and chances are you'll break some of the clips, and they won't go back together too well.. probably need super glue..  then the next time you need to do this, it'll just crack the whole thing..
