G400 replacement
« on: Sun, 23 November 2014, 19:29:37 »
This has been my trusty mouse for a long time. There is little to complain about, so I would naturally prefer similar mice to replace it with. Unfortunately, even the newer G400S appears to have been discontinued, so unless I find it from an obscure retailer, the G402 is the closest I can get. I just really dislike the look of the G402. The edgy grooves and inconveniently placed thumb button prevent me from endorsing it. If there are any previous G400 users, I would like to hear which mice can give the same, if not better experience.

I use this for a list of perfect sensors:

For Logitech there is the G502 and the G100s for the non 400 series

I had the same mouse style (G5) and found the CM Storm Recon to fit my hand similarly.

So the G402 can't even keep up with its legacy by having a good sensor? Pathetic, as if it wasn't unattractive enough.
What is this latency on the G400S though?

Lists, especially on the Internet arent absolute, G402 and G302 use a improved(or rather the actually intended) Version of the AM010, which is one of the best things happening to the mice sector in a long time.

Look up "Smoothing".

There is that gyroscope thing that I suspected was the cause of potential flaws, better safe than sorry.

you can get refurbished G400 mice right here on ebay for $43,67 (including shipping).

i just ordered one myself, so i could let you know if you're curious to whether it's in good shape (and functioning properly) or not.
for me, it has to ship to the netherlands (from the us), so:
"Estimated delivery between Thursday, Dec. 4 and Wednesday, Dec. 24"

edit: in case your G400 isn't broken and you're just looking to 'upgrade':
personally, i would stay away from the G400S and the g402.
other than that, i don't really know what i could suggest. i suppose you could look at reviews of the G502, i presume there are a few G400 vs G502 comparisons to be found.

if your G400 is broken, though, you might want to try and find out what the cause is.
if your PC does not register the mouse when plugged in, or it's disconnecting/reconnecting randomly/frequently, then it's likely that your mouse suffers from the legendary cable/cord issue.
if this is the case, then i would suggest that you order a cable (like this one) for the G400.
installing a new cord for the G400 is incredibly easy (it does not require any soldering).
a nice bonus too, is that these cables are significantly more sturdy than the original cable on the G400.
there's plenty of information on this cable issue/fix of the G400 on google, in case you're interested (and unfamiliar).

also; the G400 shares the same cable-connection as a bunch of other Logitech mice.
so you could find out which mice have that same cable-connection, and then you'd be able to also search for a cable for that mouse.

sorry for the long post :D i wanted to make sure you don't spend more money than you have to, or feel forced to switch to another mouse.

it uses a ADNS-3310 sensor which is really well trusted. CS go people use them in other mice. there is absolutely NO hardware accel.
