I don't get why people love firefly so much, it was a meh tv show with worse movies.

Boardwalk Empire is amazing in HD though, the art direction of that show is awesome and HD really adds to it. Though please no one buy The Wire in HD ;_;

I'll just say I agree it's meh, and I don't understand the fervor surrounding the show/movie.

The only TV show I own on Blu Ray is Seinfield: The Complete Series. It remains, and always will be, the best sitcom television has ever produced. Every single episode is quotable. Every one a classic.

Save your money: less than 1% of shows ever made are worth buying.

TV is a huge waste of time at every resolution.

Possible Exceptions: PBS and BBC.

PBS: Nova, The Roosevelts (I like Teddy's "Get Action" motto).
BBC: The Power of Art.

The Wire

That show is so brilliantly done. So well written, locations so well scouted. I've seen that side of Baltimore many times and they captured the feeling of the 90s crack boom perfectly.

Just please, don't but the BluRay version. It was shot and filmed with a square aspect ratio and standard def in mind, it's part of the experience.

If they ever release Joy of Painting with Bob Ross on BD, I'll buy it.
Til then, I'll be content with my torrent.

If I could guarantee that BlueRay was going to be a medium everyone would still use in 20 years, I would buy the shows I would want to easily share with friends "Hey, you haven't watched breaking bad?" **hands them the box set from the shelf** "enjoy".

It's much easier for people to not have to worry about downloading something or finding good quality versions and their much more likely to watch and enjoy if they have the physical copy from a friend.

Breaking Bad, Sopranos, Boardwalk Empire, Lost, Six Feet Under, Star Trek TNG, Monty Python Flying Circus, The Mighty Boosh.

I have Farscape on Bluray. Just beautiful.

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and Dollhouse are excellent Bluray options as well.

Also, the Stargate series (SG1, Atlantis, and Universe) are wonderful on Bluray.

Cancelled. And good riddance. It borrowed too heavily from nBSG in terms of effects and cinematography and slacked off on character development.

Eh, I would have liked them to at least conclude it... Didn't it get replaced with Falling Skies? But yeah I wasnt a fan of it either, though I love SG1 and Atlantis, it would have been cool to have a bit more of a gritty series

I think it's because SG1 and SGA where a mix of light sci-fi action/drama and political intrigue and SGU was like high drama with some cool sci-fi stuff tacked on. It was pretty weak and the writing wasn't as good as SG1 or SGA, but it's still miles better than Falling Skies lol

Yeah the second movie was terrible.

I think blu-ray is for two things:
1. shows that are very good that you are a huge fan of and want the best possible viewing experience
2. Shows that look really pretty and benefit from the higher def.

The same applies to movies of course.

So for some movies, like Avatar, don't watch them because they have any real story writing / character development merit, They're just pretty.

And #1 is up to the person, aesthetics being relative you know.

I've watched through stargate SG1 at least twice and it's good though some seasons are certainly better than others. Still need to watch Atlantis.

Dexter lmao , **** this show it was getting bad enough without someone pooping onto the last 5 min of the final .

I'd consider Sons of Anarchy also .

Seinfeld is great, and I have watched every episode. I will watch any episode again any time.

But The Office (US) is also a great sitcom, on the same level as Seinfeld.

3 episodes per season. Do yourself a favor and watch it.
You just can't compare a full-on BBC production with the formulaic show that is Elementary. Sherlock is The Wire when Elementary is CSI.

Let me know how you enjoy it.

Little backstory. When Peter Jackson watched Sherlock, he instantly realized he had found his Bilbo for The Hobbit, Martin Freeman. So he got in contact with the studio and asked to arrange meeting with him. Freeman was very excited about the possibility of being the lead role in a Tolkien film, but sad that it wouldn't be possible due to a scheduling conflict between the two projects. Jackson decided to delay the filming of The Hobbit to after the filming of the second season of Sherlock was done.

The bluray isos were quite hard to acquire on the trackers.. finally got them, and omg..

Sherlock is so good...

I just went out to buy a box of popeyes, so I can binge watch it all, and eat my favorite food in the world..

I forgot to stop by the liquor store for some burgundy and port, but whatever,  vodka and grapejuice shall take their place for now..

Actually watched the entire season of True Detective on Wed. It does a great job of emanating that slow plodding fear and feeling of decay that permeates the LA bayou. It's a really slow paced show, but the fact that I watched it for 8hrs straight means it was obviously interesting enough to hold my attention.  McConaughey is fantastic in the show. He does such a good job with his character, I was feeling the exact same emotions Harrelson's character felt every time he talked. I wanted to flip him off too and tell him his nihilistic views on existence are ****. McConaughey really embodied that role. The only issue I had was with the actual villian at the end. They only really introduced him in episode 7, and the final confrontation felt forced to me. Like they ran out of time, I dunno.

All in all it was a very solid show, although I'm not sure I'd rewatch it. I am however excited to see what they do with season 2. I'll be tough finding new actors that gel so well together as  McConaughey and Harrelson, but they will be changing the entire dynamic feel of the show every season. New actors, new setting, new over-arching feel. The only worry is if season 2 winds up feeling the same (like slow creeping rot) then people will assume the show was a 1 trick pony.
