Ignoring the eyes comment:

IRIS was pretty big back when I lived in Asia.
Full House is a classic (all the Asian girls love/-ed this drama)
The movies are pretty good too. If you only watch one, watch the age-old classic: My Sassy Girl
This should be enough to get you started for now  :thumb:
Maybe look into Japanese and Taiwanese Dramas as well!

What's wrong with almond-shaped eyes?

I read somewhere that they did a study and found kpop drama to be a hit mainly among low income poorly educated Chinese communities.

From personal experience this does seem to be the case. The majority of the Chinese prostitutes I've met watched, talked about and obsessed over kpop soaps. While most of the highly educated men I know sought company from prostitutes, and rarely watched any TV.

The highly educated women I know, hrmmm don't know many of these.

I personally don't consider myself above anyone else, but I've not been drawn to anything that doesn't involve aliens and spaceships ever since I got my first legosets at 3.

I have personally watched honeyboo boo and duck dynasty which are considered lowbrow entertainment among american shows..  I watch them because their way of life with all the fish and fried foods are a complete novelty to me.. I've not lived in the south.. and I think it'd be nice to move there when I'm about to die. I'll just go there and eat sugar and fats until I die of a stroke..

Overall..  I believe the boy+girl soaps (of any country) exploit the same super power fantasy as other tv shows..

The characters are always pretty of course, they go from highlight to highlight in the life shown to you, they have jobs, but you don't see them working.

That is more or less a super power fantasy.. living highlights without having to work..

If we look at say.. Superman.. his power and intellect if listed on nasdaq would be above all of the resources and wealth of humanity combined.. and when we watch him do his thing, it's all play and no work..

you might argue, well superman is saving people, that's his job.. NOT REALLY.. superman has no reason to save people..  it just happens to be something he wants to do, therefore to HIM it's an optional excursion, therefore akin to entertainment..

So.. in many ways all television fans are seeking the same enjoyment.  They want to feel the -something-for-nothing-...  an impossible payoff... a believable winning of the lottery...

also.. to clarify, I am not saying anyone who watches kpop drama is a chinese prostitute, I merely used the comparison between them and chinese business men, because those two groups have the highest disparity in education among the people I've dealt with.

I can give you a pretty precise number ..

Every fall into summer, for an average of 1.5 month for 9 years

The establishments have a turnover rate of about 6 month to a year, so I am quite certain they're different girls each year..

About 3-5 per week, say average 4,

so it's   6*4*9 = 216

This would exclude large groups that exist at the ktv, that would be impossible to count.

I am only counting those I've met officially .

Secret Garden - Pretty popular and it gets referenced pretty often in newer dramas.
Baby and me - Good movie
Ahjusshi - Also good movie
Dream High - Watch only first season.
Flower Boy Next Door - Park Shin Hye is great in most of her dramas.
My Love from Another Star
Answer me 1997

Some might not really classify as "Soap operas" though

IE those that you met in a brothel, as opposed to freelancers turning tricks on the side without a licence of sorts from the Taiwanese government?

Why is it when any non-Caucasian makes fun of their race's attributes it is greeted with LOL's.

But when the white man says anything racist about themselves everyones panties get in a bunch?

I'm speaking mostly of mainland experience, but from what I can tell, brothels and freelancers work the same in both places, in fact many mainland girls are often trafficked to work in Taiwan..

What I did find that I thought was somewhat unique to taiwan were these cute girls waiting outside of restaurants..  My cousins said they're kind of like prostitutes, but some of them are just hungry or due to income class gap could not afford expensive meals, so they camp outside for patrons..

I believe this has to do with the fact that the majority of the "white man" are in income classes above "minority" populations.

So.. since wealth is predominantly an inherited attribute, because of the close proximity of the slaves era.. it can be said that the advantages the white man has inherited is the value generated on the back of slaves..

AND so, given that advantage, they really shouldn't ever be chastising the descendents of those who stair-wayed their path to wealth in the past, (unjustly)..

No one's panties are in a bunch because you are making fun of white people's eyes.

I know it probably wasn't intentional:: but it's because the fact that your use of "round eyes" to refer to white folk while specifically asking for suggestions from Asian folk implies your belief that Asian folks don't have round eyes. We've heard all the jokes growing up so I won't pollute this forum with restatements.

It's perfectly fine for a white person to make a joke about white people and for people of color to make jokes about people of color. The other way around and it comes dangerously close to racism.

Strange, I thought that 'round eyes' was a reference to black people...
