Anyone think stock filco caps kinda dig into fingers ?
« on: Thu, 18 December 2014, 17:06:27 »
I feel like my fingers are hurting because the edges of these stock keys are too sharp on the edges. Is that a known issue with the stock filcos ? Any other good reasons to replace the keycaps ? Other ones feel better or anything ?

The stock filco caps are thin ABS.  They are pretty cheap IMO.

A few reasons to get different caps: cap profile (height+curvature), cap material (abs vs pvt vs pom), colors.

Personally I think thick PBT makes tactile feel better, ABS makes clickies feel better, and POM is my favorite for linear switches (harder to find POM sets).  But your mileage may vary.

This happen on you thumb only or all your finger?  If this happen only on you thumb, you can simply put the bottom row upside down.  If this happen on all your finger, you can try a different profile

I have to wonder how you are typing on the keys such that you're pressing against the edge of the keycap.

I use the filco to play starcraft. Thats why Im asking if these keys are sharper than others because I honestly dont know if they dig into my fingers making them hurt or if its RSI from playing too much.

I have a set of yellow Filco keycaps (on a non-Filco keyboard, when I swap them in).  I do not find them sharp.  In fact I am yet to find a keycap set that is "sharp", and occasionally wonder what people actually mean by that.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

I have a filco red and a blackwidow 2014. The keycaps on the filco feel more curved but that's about it. Maybe you are pressing the keys too hard?
