Morning Drink?
« on: Tue, 13 January 2015, 07:54:31 »
Do you have a morning drink?

Currently I'm squeezing the juice of one lemon into a cup and adding water, it is very filling, tasty and it hypes me up, it also takes me longer to drink it versus a soda pop.

Obligatory coffee post.

I was bout that lemon water life for a while. I'd bite it into it after I squeezed the juice out.

A medium-large sized glass of orange juice, usually followed half an hour later by 1-2 cups of strong coffee with cream.

I need to make the coffee an occasional pick-me-up rather than a regular thing.

Oolong or cocoa.
(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

I'm considering juicing

Juicing is by far the best.

The only problem is that you have to continuously buy fresh fruits and vegetables.

If you are cheap, juicers can often be found at yard sales. Look for a larger "mouth/throat" and remember that the ongoing problem is the difficulty in cleaning the damn thing, which has to be done right away and is a pain in the ass.

My Juiceman II is only a mediocre juicer, but it is the one I use most often because I find it the easiest to clean. I have a couple of others, including a Jack LaLanne, which are much better but harder to clean.

Or, best of all, get an over-powered blender and buzz the entire thing down to mush.

Nothing fancy. Just a normal big blender. I use 2 scoops of peanut butter marshmallow protein powder, 2 hand fulls of ice, and some almond milk. If it is right after a workout ill add a scoop of peanut butter.

I like coffee strong and bitter.

I read an article a few years ago (in Scientific American, I think) that studied how the stomach reacts to coffee. It turns out that milkfat, even in tiny amounts, helps buffer the stomach lining and makes the experience much easier on the body.

The suggestion was that "non-dairy" and "non-fat" substances called "creamers" were useless in this regard, but that even half a spoonful of real cream gave you the milkfat to provide the buffer.

But if you are trying to shoot up the coffee as if it were a drug, the buffer might slow down its absorption!

Coffee with milk.

Coffee, cigarettes and chocolate all have similar mocha/ tobacco flavors.  Which is why they go so good together.  I quit smoking though, like over 10 years ago.  But I can still enjoy my coffee and chocolate.

I start off with room-temp water to get the mouth juices flowing again then cherry extract and/or fruit juice in my Irish oats, followed by more water. I usually don't start caffeinating myself until just before or with lunch (some kind of hot tea) unless I stop off at a coffee joint on my way to the office.

I make hella-good just-before-bed smoothies :p
fresh or frozen fruit/berries
banana
goji berries
dried figs
unsweetened plain yogurt
unsweetened almond milk
and a dash of fruit juice (no sugar added)

One black coffee, two sugars.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Sometimes I have beer and ice cream for breakfast just to remind myself I'm an adult.

Looking for someone to chime in with:

"Tea. Earl Grey. Hot."

Make it so!

So far today I'm just now finishing my morning lemon water drink, normally I would have already had a couple sodas so I guess that is a positive.

I have one double espresso with a tiny bit of steamed milk (like a Flat White or a Cortado), and a Mean Green smoothie (recipe is here: http://www.rebootwithjoe.com/mean-green-juice/).

Aren't apple seeds toxic?

I core it first.  Don't know if they're toxic but like you I thought I heard it somewhere.  It's easy though, with one of these: http://www.target.com/p/oxo-soft-works-apple-wedger/-/A-13567791#prodSlot=medium_1_1&term=apple+corer

I eat apples whole, core and all but pick out the seeds. I use a knife and just cut pieces off as I go, am I weird?
People in the 1980s, in general, were clearly just better than we are now in every measurable way.

The dumber the reason the more it must be done

apple seeds contain cyanide but it would take eating a lot of apple seeds all at once, all chewed, to have enough to even make you sick
it's pronounced "danw omansen", not "dan woman san"
