Anyone else seen Requiem for a Dream?
« on: Wed, 18 February 2015, 21:16:41 »
I just watched it, and I really liked it, at first I thought it was going to be similar to Trainspotting, but wow I was wrong. If you haven't watched it I would recommend it, although I thought it had a very creepy vibe to it. The refrigerator parts really freaked me out at first.

I didn't catch how he got that, or was that just an infection from injecting?

I liked train spotting more than requiem for a dream, requiem was too weird for me.
People in the 1980s, in general, were clearly just better than we are now in every measurable way.

The dumber the reason the more it must be done

+1 for trainspotting. Both movies were pretty intense, but i just enjoyed watching trainspotting while i couldn't really enjoy requiem. Was just too much :(

I saw Requiem in 2001, my lab partner had just got it and wanted to watch it after we finished our work. I hate needles, had a bad hospital experience as a kid.  I didn't know what the movie was about when we started watching it, but it's the only movie that's made me sick to my stomach.  Trainspotting was harsh, but didn't have as bad an effect on me.

I'm ok with needles..  but the kind they got now in the auto blood draw capsules during the yearly checkups is HUGE .. it's like at least 1-2 mm..

That was pretty scary..

I actually had to look away when the nurse stuck me with it..

i watched it while on drugs.
(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

As a very drug liberal person, requiem for a dream is one of the best movies Ive seen. One who show as somewhat twisted yet very interesting life of a drug users (turned abuser). That and Matrix I think would be my favorite movies

If you want more "druggy" and way WAY more strange I suggest "enter the void".

This.

It's one of the all time best worst movies. I wouldn't want to watch it again. Trainspotting on the other hand is great all around, even the soundtrack is worthy of keeping in my library.

My feelings exactly. Once was enough. However, I would recommend it for others, depending on the person. I feel the same about Black Swan, also by Aronofsky.

Yea that music is creepy,  and how they made the actors during the game show segments all bugg-eyed..  freaks me out.

It's pretty overrated. If you want to see a good Aronofsky flick watch Pi. If you want to see a movie that really captures the intensity of the underbelly of society, watch KIDS.

I will say, everything I read about it and saw about it, said that it was mentally scarring, and truly over hyped it and described it to be very mind scarring. It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be.

I just watched KIDS, and in my opinion, it wasn't a very good movie, the movie could have been 30 minutes long with the same amount of detail and story.

Hi, I heard about this movie "Requiem for a Dream". It is a psychological film. It is considered drama and in some ways horrifying. I think, it would be better only for adults and not recommendable for children.

Yeah, and the low budget of KIDS is very obvious IMO.
