Dell Inspiron 5100

Machine came out in 2003, but I got mine as a hand-me-down, and didn't have it until ~2007.

P4, 2.40 ghz; Mobility Radeon 7500; 1024x768; 256MB (later upgraded to 1GB -- or 2GB, I can't recall); Windows XP

Can't remember. I did break the mouse buttons twice though on that thing though.
This is back when dell still had amazing service.

Some sort of late 90s Thinkpad, I don't remember the model. It was basically a glorified paperweight.

An old Toshiba laptop, can't remember the model number.

I threw it out years ago because the battery leaked on the mobo and destroyed one corner of it.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Believe it or not, my first laptop was the Chromebook Pixel I bought at age 33. Always had a desktop before that.

I still don't see what all the fuss is about.

but what's cool was,  my 900mhz pentium 3 can almost keep up with the 2.4ghz pentium 4, because pentium 3 is basically Core2duo.. LOL

Well when I was a kid, the whole concept of 1 physical object that can do everything was really cool.

Can't remember all the details but mine was a Medion P4 2.0ghz with 512mb and a 32mb Radeon powering a 1024x768 screen.  I remember compiling Linux on it but don't remember which version of Windows it had, I gamed on it (maybe original Unreal Tournament?) so it must have had one :))

My first laptop was some Toshiba in which I downloaded iTunes, it never booted up again. I have no idea what my 10 year mind did. I apparently set a boot password so I couldn't even get into windows. I believe vista at the time.

I can agree with this statement... PIIIs were amazing chips.

The first laptop I ever bought had a PIII 1000MHz w/256 or 512MB RAM. Micron Transport GX+. Think it had a 1400 x 1050 screen.

I remember I had Windows 7 running on it, albeit slowly, but stable...

Still have that laptop somewhere... might look for it later...

Well it also depends on the task, anything that hits the memory hard, pIII would lose..

I'm struggling to remember the exact model, but I'm pretty sure it was a Dell Latitude CPi.  Pentium II, 64(?)MB of RAM. I was so proud of that thing, it is embarrassing now!

I remember vividly thinking it was super badass with the 266MHz processor. And the built in floppy drive was just so convenient, I had floppy disks everywhere! I bought a wireless card to put into the PCMCIA slot, and thought, it doesn't get much better than this; I had arrived at the pinnacle of technology. It is funny to look back on, for sure.

Right after it froze when clicking radio on iTunes, I sorta shoved it in the freezer when the fans kicked up. Pulled the battery out and in it went. ITunes never went on another computer of mine

I wasn't aware at the time that it was a $7500 laptop. It was a couple years old when I got it, and needed a small repair. My dad's boss had moved all the computers in their office to Macs from PCs, so he had this unused laptop that he gave me to use at college. I ran a dial-up BBS on it out of my dorm room, for a little while. :)

My first laptop was the Asus I am typing this message on right now.  Got it last summer for the wife.  I really could care less if we have it.

Hell my first tablet was a cheap Verizon one we got on special for a dime with an increase to our data plan.

I got an Asus as my first laptop. Can't remember the model though.

Then I got a HP, DV6-6001TX which honestly was a great laptop. Then the mobo died after like 3 years, plus it overheats after some time.

Currently using a Lenovo, Y50. Decent laptop, good for multimedia purpose though.
It was either the Lenovo or a MacBook Air. I guess/hope I didn't make the wrong choice.   ;D
Carrying the laptop around is a bit of a hassle though.

Nice! I never knew about those 2" floppies before now. And I thought I had seen them all, what with the old 8" and 12" floppies (and the common 5.25" and 3.5").

Macbook airs are frustratingly slow in most use-cases outside of Facebook.

god.. look at these cpus and prices..

1.3ghz  new macbook 12 inch  $1800

1.6ghz mac air 13 inch $1200

2.2ghz mac air 13 inch $1500

The $1500,  makes only a LITTLE bit of sense, but the other two, how could anyone get by on that..

If they "could", then odds are they probably could get through it on their phone.. why use a laptop at all..

Carrying the laptop around is a bit of a hassle though.

Guess i made the right choice then :p
But there's gonna be a point where I'll get a macbook. Maybe not for studies  :p

I guess/hope I didn't make the wrong choice.   ;D

nawh dawg.. I understand..

girls think you're rich if you got a mac book..

But.. if you think about it.. the girls that think you're Rich just because you have a macbook are themselves poor.. so..   well I guess that doesn't matter in college.
